Dr. Jeffrey S. Mandel – General Surgery

Who: Dr. Jeffrey Mandel is a surgeon who is committed to engaging his patients in deciding what is the best course forward for them, including whether surgery is the best option. He was inspired to pursue a career in medicine by his mother, who set a strong example as a physical therapist providing empathy and care to her patients. Outside of the operating room, Dr, Mandel prioritizes spending his free time with family and friends.

What: Dr. Mandel runs a broad general surgery practice with an emphasis on minimally invasive, advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery. The most common operations he performs include gallbladder, hernia, colorectal and anti-reflux surgery. In the past five years, he has employed the DaVinci robot to perform over 650 inguinal and ventral hernia surgeries.

 Why: Dr. Mandel completed one of the earliest minimally invasive surgery fellowships that led to broad exposure to a wide range of surgical cases. He performed the first LINX operation in Savannah, which uses magnetic beads to augment the valve at the base of the esophagus to prevent reflux, establishing himself as a pioneer of innovative surgical strategies. He is committed to continuous learning, attending national conferences every year to incorporate the latest methods and technology in his practice. Dr. Mandel also makes a point to give back to the Savannah community by supporting local organizations like the United Way, the American Cancer Society and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

What do you want  South readers to know?: “In general, when selecting your physician it is important to know that they have experience and special training in treating your condition. In addition to the advice of your personal physician, there are many resources that many people have but often forget to use.
