The Gift Giving Season
Thanksgiving is underway which means in just a few days we'll all start hearing Christmas music playing throughout the super market.
If you're in the downtown area, you've already seen the Christmas tree on Bull Street has gone up. It's time (if you haven't already) to start thinking about gifts and presents for the people around you. There are some really great alternatives to what holiday shopping usually looks like! Check out some locally sourced and hand-made options for your family and friends and coworkers.
So the first good news is free parking. On Thursday's and Friday's (and Saturday, November 25) throughout the holiday season, the first three hours of parking in any city owned parking garage is free! The garages include:
- Bryan St. Garage
- Liberty St. Garage
- Robinson Garage
- State St. Garage
- Whitaker St. Garage
For three hours of shopping and sight-seeing and holiday-inspired beverage drinking time, it's all on the city.

The second good news is Small Business Saturday. November 25, the Small Business Chamber, Buy Local, and the City of Savannah have teamed up to become a Neighborhood Champion for American Express' Shop Small Campaign. Their mission is to support the local store owners and to raise community awareness of the impact shopping small has on Savannah's economy. Eight businesses in the city will serve as information hubs will be located near Downtown and Broughton Street, River Street, Habersham Village, Starland District, Southside, Wilmington Island, and a pop-up shop in the Ogeechee area.
You can see who has registered already and be on the look out for company coupons and discounts for the holiday shopping season. Participation in this event is a fantastic way for businesses to increase their brand awareness and connect with the community.
