Six Facts on Gas Monkey Garage's Richard Rawlings

Gas Monkey Goes South In the Discovery Channel’s revved-up reality show Fast N’ Loud, star Richard Rawlings leads his rebel crew at Gas Monkey Garage as they scout the country for classic rides. 


Here are six fun facts on the hot-rod guru:

1. Rawlings is a prodigy

Following in his father’s footsteps, Rawling’s passion for cars began early in his life, as he attended car shows alongside his dad. Even in his younger years, Rawlings helped his dad build cars.

2. He Bought his first first car at 14 years old

At the age of 14 years old, before he could legally drive, Rawlings bought his first car – a green ‘74 Mercury Comet. By his senior year in high school he was on his third car – a ‘77 Bandit Trans Am.

3. Gas Monkey Garage is World-Renowned

Rawlings hot rod shop featured in Fast N’ Loud is world-renowned. The shop not only flips classic cars found throughout the country, but the Dallas, Texas based shop ships cars across the globe.



4. He once took a bullet for a '65 Ford Mustang
Rawlings says his passion for cars is one he’s not only shed sweat for, but also blood. In the early ‘90s, he was shot by a carjacker who tried to steal his ‘65 Ford Mustang 2 + 2 Fastback.
5. Rawlings is a dare devil and record breaker

Rawlings is the current world record holder of the Cannonball Run – covering 2,811 miles from NYC to LA in 31 hours and 59 minutes with an average speed of 87.6 miles per hour. 

6. He's a hard worker and has held several jobs to feed his passion

Like his dad, who was known to at times work three jobs so he could afford his toys, Rawlings has held a variety of jobs to fund his passion, including working as a firefighter, police officer and paramedic all before the age of 21.
