Savannah Stopover Music Festival

When Kayne Lanahan envisioned the Savannah Stopover Music Festival five years ago, she never imagined she would revolutionize Savannah’s indie music scene. No longer a stop-along-the-way to bigger and better fests, Stopover has become one of the Southeast’s premier music festivals. Is it the Southern hospitality or the to-go cups that keeps Stopover rockin’?

You could call March the month of music in Savannah. From the Savannah Music Festival to the pipes of Saint Patrick’s Day, the historic streets are bursting with original melodies.

Perhaps the coolest of these sounds are those brimming from the Stopover Music Festival. The festival originated as a stopping place for bands to play on their way to the prestigious SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. Now in its fifth year, Stopover has become a driving force of indie music for the South and garners national attention with big-name indie artists.

Today, Stopover is more of a destination than a stop along the way. Meet nine bands who are headlining the quintessential Savannah event. Don’t miss a single show! Check out the bands you can’t miss in the February/March issue of South!
