Savannah’s internationally acclaimed music festival is entering its 33rd year, now billed as “Georgia’s largest musical arts event and one of the most distinctive cross-genre music festivals in the world.” More than a celebration of music and creation, SMF is a cultural icon in the coastal empire in arts education, economic influence, and uniting an eclectic variety of artists and audiences in what has been called “a veritable United Nations of performing artists.” No small feat to produce annually, this near $4 million event has released this year’s lineup of 50 curated sets from orchestral symphonies to jazz, to the voices of bluegrass, gospel, “shouters,” and more. Performing at multiple venues across downtown Savannah over the course of 17 days, the 2022 lineup welcomes, to name only a few, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Christian McBride, Benny Green, Jeff Hamilton, Sean Jones Quartet, Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Blind Boys of Alabama, and Mavis Staples.
