The pinnacle Hilton Head golf event that needs no introduction, the countdown clock is officially running for this year’s 54th Annual RBC Heritage Golf Classic. South Carolina’s only PGA-level Tournament, the Heritage is not your average classic. As the name implies, this steeped-in-tradition celebration kicks off with the opening reenactment of an 18-th century tradition from the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrew. After a Harbour Town Yacht Basin parade of VIPs, the previous year’s champion (2021 titleholder Stewart Cink) commences the tour stop by hitting a featherie-style golf ball into the Calibogue Sound with an “authentic hickory club,” serenaded by the Citadel’s Pipe and Drum band and a celebratory cannon blast. Built for both fan and family fun on and around the renowned Harbour Town Golf Links, RBC is known as “the highlight of Hilton Head Island’s social calendar.” Though tickets are traditionally sold out well in advance, there’s an extensive itinerary of local events and activities to accommodate the influx of island-goers all week long. Rules and regs run just as tight for attendees as for the players, so check the website for all info from parking to “autograph policies.” #PlaidNation, unpack your plaid.
