Counting Down to Midnight (a few hours early)
Watching a ball drop is one of the more head-scratching New Year’s Eve traditions, if you think about it, but for one reason or another the Time Square tradition has made plummeting spheres the de facto symbol of the holiday.
This being Hilton Head Island, we naturally drop a golf ball. This is, after all, and island that rose to prominence on the strength of its world-class courses.
When the ball drops on Hilton Head Island, it drops from the world-famous Harbour Town Lighthouse, on the very course that brought the island its golf acclaim. Swing by Harbour Town and you can enjoy food, music and dining amid thousands of lights as you wait for the countdown.

Ring in 2018 with Cranford Hollow
There are New Year’s Eve parties all over the island, of course, but this is Hilton Head. When you want to celebrate here, you do it on the beach.
The annual New Year’s Eve party at The Beach House will once again feature home-grown rock band Cranford Hollow (who tore it up at this year’s DineSouth) along with C2 & The Brothers Reed. Passed Hors d’oeuvres, an open bar and a massive party right on the beach make this one well worth getting tickets for.
And yes, we said open bar. But take it easy, not just because it’s the responsible thing to do, but because you’ll want to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed the next morning for:
New Year’s Day Pajama Brunch
Located at the foot of the Cross Island Bridge, Palmetto Bay Sunrise Café hosts one of the most beloved local New Year’s Day traditions, the annual Pajama Brunch.
On any day of the year, the crab cakes benedict at Palmetto Bay Sunrise Café are to die for. But pair them with some mimosas and a few dozen locals nursing a hangover in their jammies and you have a recipe for an unforgettable brunch experience.
