How to Start Your Mornings On The Right Foot

It has been proven that people who exercise and eat healthy foods first thing in the morning are more likely to make wise and healthy decisions the rest of the day. 

When we wake up, our bodies have been fasting for 8 to 12 hours, so you have to make sure that you are waking it up with love instead of with a punch in the stomach. This is why I want to share with you an ideal morning routine.

 

1. Do oil pulling as soon as you wake up.

This ancient ayurvedic practice brings many benefits to your body: it gives you stronger teeth, prevents cavities, whitens your teeth, increases energy levels, and so on. Take a tablespoon of a plant based oil and swish it around your mouth for 20 minutes. The oil volume will multiply because it will get combined with saliva and toxins, so make sure not to swallow it! Once you are done spit the oil out into the trash, not the sink because the oil may solidify and block up the drain. Then swish your mouth with warm salt water and you’re ready to go.

 

2. Drink a cup of warm water with lime.

This will bring you many benefits: it detoxes your body, boosts your immune system, aids digestion, keeps your skin blemish-free, increases your energy and helps fight viral infection. Add the juice of half a lemon if you are female and the juice of a full lemon if you are male.

 

3. Eat fruits and vegetables.

Since you’ve been fasting for many hours your body is eager for food. Take advantage of this and give it tons of fruits and vegetables. This is the time of day when your body will absorb all of the nutrients healthy food has to offer, so go ahead and have a smoothie, a natural homemade juice or just some fruits before you have your actual breakfast.

 

4. Eat breakfast.

Ideally you’ll eat your breakfast an hour after you’ve eaten your fruits and vegetables. Include steel cut oatmeal, unsweetened almond milk, homemade granola, whole wheat toast, natural peanut butter, raw honey, eggs, turkey and plain Greek yogurt. Avoid processed dairy, cereals, low fat milk and yogurt (they are packed with hidden sugars) and artificial sweeteners.

 

5. Have your cup of joe.

I’m sure a lot of you can’t live without that morning coffee. This will actually help you digest any meal, so have it when you are done with breakfast.

Try to follow these five easy steps every morning, but if you skip one don’t beat yourself up. Just try to make healthy decisions in the morning and stick to them the rest of your day.
