Cheers to 50 Years: Your Guide to a Historic Heritage

Since it first launched in 1969, putting Hilton Head Island on the map, the annual Heritage golf tournament has served as the island’s signature event. As some of golf’s biggest names make their way to Harbour Town, the entire island celebrates the chance to get out and enjoy what some call the classiest outdoor cocktail party on the PGA Tour.

And this year, adding to the already celebrational atmosphere, the RBC Heritage presented by Boeing is celebrating its 50th tournament. This golden anniversary brings with it plenty of reasons to celebrate, like the return of No. 1 golfer in the world Dustin Johnson to Harbour Town after nearly ten years. He’ll be joining a field of stars like returning champ and South Carolina native Wesley Bryan, Boo Weekley, Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar and Jordan Spieth.
So how do you make your Heritage visit to Hilton Head complete? Read on…

Where To Watch
The golf is great and all, but the real joy of the RBC Heritage lies in the people watching. Here you have a few options. The first is the 15th hole’s famed concession area where you can grab a cold drink and join in the festivities while keeping one eye on the 16th hole’s tee box. Every time a golfer nails one into 16’s single ball-eating tree, drink.
There are also the hospitality tents lining 18, but other than the Grey Goose vodka tent which is public, they’re all designated for corporate clients. It’s a great place to mingle / talk your way in, though. Finally, you’ll want to upgrade to a clubhouse badge and check out the action from the beautifully renovated Harbour Town Clubhouse. Grab an app at Links, An American Grill while you’re there.

Hit The Links
If seeing some of your favorite golfers has you itching to hit the links, you’re in the right place. Obviously, it’s not going to be possible to book a tee time at Harbour Town, but it’s far from the only game in town.
Brown Golf, headquartered just over the bridge in Bluffton, manages 29 courses across six states including some spectacular courses locally. On the island, you can check out Dolphin Head Golf Club in Hilton Head Plantation or the two courses at Palmetto Hall Country Club. Or, check out the small town vibe of Bluffton after a round at Island West or Pinecrest.
