6 New Year’s Resolution It’s Not Too Late to Commit To

The start of a new year is the ultimate call for revisiting your old ways and coming up with new habits to better yourself.

Sure, the age-old adage “new year, new me” has transformed into a bit of an annual cliché, but there is a splash of hope in the ability to start a fresh chapter on the right foot. What better time to build out a game plan for your year ahead?

Even if it’s past January 1st, there’s no such thing as a bad time to get the ball rolling on your new year’s goals. Rather than settling for vague goals that simply sound good, come up with 5-10 achievable goals that you can realistically see yourself achieving. Even for those on a busy schedule that seems to never slow down, there are plenty of ways you can hold yourself accountable to goals that are based in realism.

1. Focus on your health

Your health is singlehandedly the most important part of your day to day life. However, with all of the things busying your schedule, carving out the time to truly care for it can be challenging. Make this year about focusing on your health and bettering your body and immune system.

  1. Cut down on saturated fat and sugars

  2. Eat less salt: (no more than 6g a day for adults)

  3. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

  4. Eat more fruits and veggies

  5. Base your meals on higher fiber starchy carbohydrates (rice, pasta, bread, etc.)


2. Create a budget (and stick to it!)

Do you constantly find yourself scratching your head, wondering where all of your hard-earned money has gone? Sure, you’ve got your regular bills, but what about the rest? A working budget serves as the perfect solution to keep track of where your dollars are going on a weekly and monthly basis. The sooner you’re able to admit that you need some budgeting help, the better off your finances will be.

Whether that means stashing a flat percentage of your paycheck into savings or simply creating a budget to gain keener insight into your spending habits, having a budget will make a world of difference to your wallet and bank account


3. Focus on your health

If you know yourself well enough to know that you just don’t have it in you to stick to getting to the gym every day, set a more realistic goal of increasing your consistency. Whether that means exercising once a week or every other day, it’s far easier to commit to being regularly active than setting unreachable (and oftentimes miserable) goals.

  • Short 20 to 40-minute jogs

  • 5 to 10-mile bike rides

  • Going on walks with a friend

4. Commit to being regularly active

The effects of climate change make themselves evident every passing year, forcing us to face the reality that the planet is dying. And yet, there is hope!  Make 2020 your year of reducing your carbon footprint. By changing up a few of your regular habits and routines, you can start making a difference today

  • Save on gas and bike or carpool to work

  • Donate old clothing

5. Start Investing

6. Work on your credit score

The average FICO score in the United States is 703. How does yours compare? Your credit score is an incredibly important part of your financial status, playing a huge part in determining whether or not you’re deemed eligible for anything ranging from credit card applications to home mortgage loans. Ultimately, you want to make sure you have access to every possible service you need when the time comes. A good credit score will better prepare you for this.
