You Won't Believe What Happened to This South Carolina Teacher

A South Carolina school teacher is accused of contributing to the delinquency of a minor after one of her students stole her phone, discovered nude photos and shared them with other students.

Leigh Ann Arthur, a teacher at Union County High School in South Carolina, was forced to resign. She says the photos were taken for her husband as a Valentine’s Day present and were never meant for anyone else’s eyes.

Arthur has been a teacher in Union county for over 13 years, but that didn’t seem to matter much when she was escorted off school property. Meanwhile, the 16-year-old boy who took her phone and violated her privacy is still attending school with no punishment in sight.

Arthur tells WSPA News: “He opened up my gallery for my pictures and he found inappropriate pictures of myself and he took pictures from his cell phone of that and then he told the whole class that he would send them to whoever wanted them.”

She also adds that the student had already warned her that something bad was coming her way. “The student who actually took my phone and took pictures turned around and told me your day of reckoning is coming.”

Union County School Superintendent David Eubanks says that the school has concern that Arthur could be contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to, contributing to the delinquency of a minor involves “any action by an adult that allows or encourages illegal behavior by a person under the age of 18, or that places children in situations that expose them to illegal behavior.”

How could she be contributing to this boy’s delinquency? She would have had to tell the boy there were nude photos on her phone, which she didn’t. Then she would have had to tell the boy to look into her phone while she was out of the room, which she didn’t.

Further, if she is contributing to this boy’s illegal behavior, why isn’t the boy being charged with a crime? He should at least be expelled if his behavior is wrong enough to push this woman out of a job.

This woman has every right to give her husband a slew of nude photos as a gift. She even has the right to keep those photos on her phone. She even has the right to lease said phone on her desk while out of the classroom.

The bigger picture here is this 16-year-old boy. Are our school’s disciplinary systems so lax that a student would think stealing a phone and its contents are OK? Does our culture reward crime so much that threatening a teacher doesn’t even warrant a punishment anymore? Clearly, because this kid isn’t even being punished for the crime!

The school and the school board should be standing behind this teacher and enforcing a punishment for this kid. If his parents complain explain to them that they have a sneaky little brat of a child that needs to be taught right from wrong inside the home before he is allowed to function in public.

But, this is America and that’s just my humble opinion. What do you think should happen to this teacher? Do you think she should have her job back? Do you think the boy should be punished? Or do you think the Superintendent acted justly? Sound off in the comments below!
