The Sweet South
Ready to indulge your sweet tooth with style and sophistication? Tour a few of our favorite dessert spots.
Jazz’d:
You may know Jazz’d for their amazing tapas — but they also serve some of the best desserts in the city. In an amazing location buried underground in the depths below the old Kress Department Store, this well-known spot sits right on Ellis Square — the “newest” of downtown squares — merging modern style with old Savannah history. Stepping below into this industrial chic lounge feels like finding a secret getaway, somewhere removed from tradition that isn’t afraid to experiment and be unique. Jazz’d has made a name for itself by providing the best small-plate tapas; now they want you to stop by and try their creme brulee and their chocolate martini — or their fantastic bread pudding. Jazz’d is about innovating tried-and-true dishes, and becoming enthusiastic — or Jazz’d — in the process. jazzdtapasbar.com

Lulu’s:
Lulu’s Chocolate Bar is the pinnacle of dessert bars in the South — offering deliciously sweet treats inside a glamorous atmosphere. Located in the heart of downtown Savannah, Lulu’s merges honest simplicity with luxurious indulgence, using classic recipes to produce exciting concoctions. Created by best friends Rebecca Radovich and Janine Finch, Lulu’s is a dream come true — the result of unfettered ambition and careful planning. They wanted to emulate their grandmothers in the persona “Lulu” — a colorful master of the kitchen who isn’t afraid of a cocktail or two. In addition to their tried-and-true cakes and tarts, Lulu’s offers a number of sweet martinis that are sure to appeal to the adult crowd — like their Salted Caramel Martini and their classic Lulutini, a burst of liquid chocolate goodness made with their very own sipping chocolate. luluschocolatebar.com

Better Than Sex:

Better Than Sex is a traditional dessert bar that grew up into a sexy hunk of sweetness. Curtains partition each discreet booth. Dim lighting sets a romantic mood. Chocolate or caramel coats the rim of every glass. It’s how chocolate is meant to be enjoyed — mingling with inflammable passion. Better than Sex has six locations, including three in Florida — Orlando, Key West and St. Petersburg — one in Plano, Texas, another in Los Angeles, and of course, our very own Savannah location on Broughton Street. Better than Sex is the perfect spot for a night of decadence and indulgence — the beginning of a picture-perfect night. betterthansexdesserts.com

Carmella’s:
Carmella’s Dessert Bar and Café is an Italian-American dessert bar in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Owners Brian and Tiffany Solari came from similar backgrounds, and together they decided to open their own cafe named after Brian’s grandmother Carmella. They’re known for their Italian desserts, such as tiramisu and their cannoli — as well as their special cannoli cake. carmellasdessertbar.com
