WHAT WAS YOUR JOURNEY INTO MEDICINE?
My journey into dentistry was a non-traditional path. Following my undergraduate degree in advertising and marketing with a minor in psychology from UGA, I obtained a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Radford University in Virginia, and worked as a counselor for about eight years. Approximately half-way through my tenure there I realized that this wasn’t my true passion. I knew that I wanted to work in the medical field and I wanted to work with my hands, have a finished product that I could look back on, and I wanted to be my own boss. After some soul searching I realized that dentistry would allow me to meet these goals and I started dental school at the age of 32.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT PRACTICING MEDICINE?
I love doing full-mouth restorative procedures, ie. crowns on all teeth. When patients come to you and they have dealt with years of not being happy with their smiles and they put their trust in you to help them reach their personal goals, it is an amazing feeling to watch their expression and the happiness in their eyes when they see the finished product.
DEFINING MOMENTS
Purchasing my own dental practice in January 2007 was a defining moment for me. After years of hard work and devotion to mastering my skills in the field of dentistry, becoming my own boss and controlling my own destiny affirmed all decisions that I had made.
NEWEST, LATEST AND GREATEST
I have been using a digital scanner for some time now, but the technology is a game changer. Patients love the fact that there are no more goopy impressions to deal with. 3-D imaging makes for faster services and less adjustments when placing the final restorations.
