The Legacy

After more than 30 years of innovation, dr. Deloach  hangs up the gloves. But his vision lives on in the next generation of plastic surgeons.

With the retirement of Dr. Dan Deloach, a great chapter in Savannah medicine, one which has enriched the lives of thousands, comes to a close. His legacy is one of service and of commitment, not just to his patients in the Coastal Empire but in the lives he touched around the world. Traveling the globe to poverty-stricken corners of Nicaragua and Guatemala, he has given freely of his time and talent treating children born with deformities, cleft lips and palates or who suffered from burns. Closer to home, he has dedicated countless hours to advancing the state of medicine around the Southeast, pushing for more advanced technology and improving education.

Few have as much insight into the legacy of this incredible doctor than wife Cameron, who has worked alongside Dr. Deloach as a nurse for 38 years. When asked what his legacy might be, she responded. “He was a physician’s physician. He has helped and mentored countless medical students and new physicians. He always goes the extra mile. I’m very proud of him for his dedication, his resourcefulness, and his leadership.”

For his own part, Dr. Deloach views his legacy not as a monument to his own achievements, but as a dedication to preparing the next generation of surgeons. “We’ve been successful in bringing in some very successful plastic surgeons to continue to carry on the practice and to continue to improve the services that are available to Savannah and Chatham County,” he said. “I have embraced training as a culture because I learned the value of it when I was in training.”

Dr. deloach

The list of accolades and achievements earned by Dr. Deloach during his storied career would be far too numerous to mention, but they form picture of a titan of modern plastic surgery. As co-founder of Savannah Plastic Surgery, he has pushed the frontiers of the art and science of plastic surgery, while overseeing a growing staff who have helped transformed countless lives.

Healing the world

About the Georgia Southeastern Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic Co-founded by Dr. Deloach with Dr. Lawrence Ruf in 1981, the GSCLPC began when the doctors noticed a lack of resources available to patients in the area. At the time, patients were being referred up to the medical college in Augusta, which put undue pressure on not only the patient but their family. The two colleagues formed the clinic and were soon traveling with mission organizations around the world to improve the lives of children in need.
