The Do's and Don'ts of Voting in Chatham County This Super Tuesday

The Basics

Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016.

Polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016.

Early voting is over. Georgia’s 21 days of early voting ended Friday, so if you haven’t gotten your vote in yet, you must head to the polls on Tuesday.

Make sure you know your polling place. The Chatham County Board of Elections has an interactive map that helps you find your polling location based on your address. Double-check it here before you head to the polls!

Georgia has 117 delegates up for grabs in the democratic race and 76 on the republican side. Our delegates are awarded proportionally based on voting results.

Candidates who have dropped out will still be on the ballot. Don’t be tempted to vote for a candidate just because you see their name there. Because candidates apply for a place on the ballot early on, they will still be there even if they’ve dropped out. That’s why it is always important to do your research before hitting the polls.

When You Get There

Georgia law requires voters to show photo I.D. Approved forms of identification include a Georgia driver’s license (you can still use it if it is expired), a state-issued voter identification card; a valid U.S. passport; or a valid military photo I.D.

Georgia conducts an “open” primary, which means no matter their party affiliation voters can choose what primary they wish to vote in. You can’t choose both, though! Once you choose a ballot, you must stick with that same political party.

Don’t forget Chatham County also has a special election. While you’re making your primary decision, be sure to cast your vote for sheriff as well. To read up on each of the candidates, visit their respective websites:

Roy Harris

McArthur Holmes

John Wilcher

Kim Middleton

Ken Williamson

After You Vote

Be sure to wear your “I Voted” sticker with pride. You’ve done your civic duty of participating in the democratic process.

You can’t take photos in the polling booth, but afterwards take a photo of your sticker and share! Don’t forget to use the #IVoted and tag @south_mag on Twitter!
