South’s Greatest Doctors 2021/22
When it comes to medicine, it never hurts to have a second opinion. Which is why you shouldn’t just take our word for it – each of these amazing medical professionals were hand-picked by their peers to represent the utmost in care, compassion and knowledge.
Dr. Carl Pearl Breast Augmentation / Facial Plastic Surgery
Patients come to see a plastic surgeon because they want to look and feel better. Patients do not have to have surgery, they are choosing to have it. This trust between patient and plastic surgeon is so special and drives me to be my best every day.
“I started Chatham Plastic Surgery with the idea, ‘surround yourself with people in whom you believe.’We believe in our patients, and we want them to believe in us. They understand that we are a united team who wants every second spent in our office to cause them to feel spectacular.” Dr. Carl Pearl
Listening to my patients and caring about them allows me to deliver results that patients truly want.
WHEN AND WHY
I started Chatham Plastic Surgery with the idea, ‘surround yourself with people in whom you believe.’We believe in our patients, and we want them to believe in us. They understand that we are a united team who wants every second spent in our office to cause them to feel spectacular.
Dr. Harvey Zarem came back to Savannah after being Chairman of Plastic Surgery at UCLA. He and I had a wonderful friendship inside and outside of the operating room. Even though he has passed away, I still talk to him in my mind about what he would do. I know exactly what he would say.
We have things like a cool peel laser, fractionated CO2 laser to improve texture, fine lines and hyperpigmentation. Real results with less pain and down time.
The Savannah Children’s Theater is amazing. They create magical shows with what they are given. The children take such pride in what they produce. It is incredible to see it.
COVID-19 has changed the way we think. In some ways it has made cosmetic surgery more acceptable. We all want something to look forward to but COVID-19 has taken a lot of that away from us. That procedure you have always wanted in something that people are doing now.

Drs. Christi and Pete Ghaleb / Family Medicine
Family Medicine of Pooler was established in 2010 and became the first direct primary care (DPC) medical practice in Savannah, Ga., in 2017. For Christi Ghaleb, M.D. and Pete Ghaleb, M.D., that ultimately means they get to spend more time with their patients without letting insurance companies get in the way. They love it, their patients love it, and they believe you will love it too!
“Direct primary care allows doctors to do what we love: Build relationships with our patients.” Dr. Christi Ghaleb
We are a direct primary care practice, which essentially means we will not let insurance get between us and our patients. As a result, we have more time to listen to our patients and discuss with them what their health goals are and the best way to get there.
WHEN AND WHY
We chose to specialize in family medicine when we were in medical school because we enjoy treating the whole family.
We practice family medicine using a direct primary care model, so we have the ability to treat patients regardless of their insurance status. We do this by charging a low monthly fee, allowing the physician to spend more time with each patient, which means we can use that time to really listen to our patients and come up with the best possible treatment options.
Both of our dads are physicians that have been great role models. They also act as great sounding boards.
Communication and a strong doctor-patient relationship has always been the backbone of Family Medicine. Thanks to our integration of various technologies into our practice, our patients always have a direct line of communication with their physician via text, webcam, email, etc., which has only strengthened that relationship.
HOBBIES + PASSIONS
In our down time, we enjoy off-roading in our vehicles aptly named ‘Beauty and The Beast’. We have been told that ‘Beauty’ fits Dr. Christi’s personality since she is the face of the practice, always showing kindness and compassion when providing medical care to patients. ‘The Beast’ better represents Dr. Pete as the voice of the practice, who consistently advocates for lower and transparent healthcare pricing.

Dr. Tim Minton / Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Savannah Facial Plastic Surgery is entirely dedicated to only face and neck reconstruction and cosmetic plastic surgery. They provide the most comprehensive surgical and non-surgical options in the region to their patients and clients. They have a full medical spa with esthetic services, fillers, botox, lasers and skin care that is physician directed and results driven.
“There are two volunteer organizations close to our hearts. Faces of Honor is a volunteer organization that provides free facial plastic surgical services to wounded veterans. Face to Face is another, that provides free facial plastic surgical services to victims of domestic violence.” Dr. Tim Minton
There is very little room for error when it comes to reconstructive or cosmetic results in the face and neck. Sub-specialization within the field of plastic surgery gives us the opportunity to provide our patients and clients with the most up to date and comprehensive treatment options.
WHEN AND WHY
Early in medical school I became intrigued by the intricate anatomy of the head and neck region and decided to pursue training in surgery. During my residency I was especially drawn to the artistry and rewarding nature of facial plastic surgery, and obtained additional training and certification in the field.
I recall one of the first rhinoplasty operations I performed was on a young female with a very significant nasal deformity resulting from an non-repaired childhood injury. This injury had shaped — or more accurately misshaped — her self esteem and was extremely apparent during our initial consultation. Her surgery was such a success that just several weeks afterward her emotional transformation was incredible. From her posture to demeanor, her presence was that of a confident young woman. Both of us had tears of joy and it was so incredible to be a part of her life story.
My lifelong mentor and muse is my late grandfather who was a renowned cardiovascular surgeon. He was a self-made individual who grew up on the streets of New York City and worked his way through Harvard Medical School and became chair at Columbia. He was a passionate learner and a talented surgeon and artist. I chose my career to follow in his footsteps, and feel his guidance almost on a daily basis.
When COVID-19 first hit we closed our elective based practice but continued to perform cancer and reconstructive surgery. Once we were able to initiate new practice measures, we re-opened elective services. Surprisingly, the last year and a half during COVID-19 has been our busiest ever. We attribute this to factors allowing patients to more easily socially recover, such as mask wearing and working from home, and increased financial resources from things like cancelled travel.

If you’re considering surgery in an ambulatory outpatient center, make sure it’s an accredited facility. Accreditation is important, because an outside independent agency performs rigorous inspections and certifies that the center is in accordance with rules, regulations and standards for high quality care. From the day we opened our doors, we’ve been fully accredited.
Our practice is closely monitoring the current status of the Coronavirus in our area and any future impacts it may have in our community. Currently, we are limiting the number of people that enter our buildings. As part of our COVID-19 preparedness management plan we are offering our patients “Telemedicine Visits” with our providers.

Dr. Richard R. Schulze, Jr. / Eye Surgery
Good vision is a vital part of an active life. For many years, people in Savannah have been choosing Schulze Eye & Surgery Center to handle their vision needs, for the most part based on rave reviews from past clients and the team’s dedication to helping patients achieve their vision goals regardless of means.
Our practice is old school, relying upon the adage of “the three A’s”:availability, affability, and ability. Every patient who comes through the door sees me, not a physician extender.
WHEN AND WHY
I am a fourth-generation physician. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to follow in the footsteps of the superb physician role models within my family: my father, my maternal uncle, my grandfather, and my great grandfather.
It’s impossible to choose just one, but every time I improve the eyesight of one of our patients it is an outstanding moment. That feeling never gets old.
I have been fortunate to have many mentors who have guided my career path, but my mentor in fellowship training, Bill Collis, M.D.,taught me to be ambidextrous in surgery. I’m forever grateful for his generosity towards me.
My practice is a solo clinic in ophthalmology specializing in anterior segment surgery, refractive surgery such as LASIK, PRK, and the implantable contact lens. Procedures like refractive lens exchange allow the implantation of multifocal lenses which can provide simultaneous far and near vision, thus reducing, or in some cases, even eliminating, the need for reading glasses. Recently, the FDA has improved a new eyedrop which allows for better reading vision without glasses or surgery. Expect more innovation in this space in years to come.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to shut down almost completely (except for emergencies) for about six weeks in the spring of 2020. We took advantage of the free time to re-imagine our practice, focusing on details that have allowed for us to emerge from the pandemic with a leaner, more efficient clinic, and a better, more user-friendly experience for our patients. We implemented a new medical record system, improved our waiting room, repaved the parking lot, updated our signage, and re-did our landscaping. We have an amazing team.

Dr. Jack Considine / Outpatient Imaging / High Field Open MRI
Savannah and the surrounding areas are very fortunate to have an abundance of excellent primary care and subspecialty physicians. The medical community is far more sophisticated than is often found in towns of this size and is easily on par with major metropolitan centers throughout the country. At Coastal Imaging we do our part by having the most extensive lineup of world class, subspecialized, radiologists while offering the latest in advanced imaging.
“There is a need for advanced, outpatient, breast imaging in our region. At Coastal Imaging we are committed to comprehensive, state of the art, diagnostic services and are perfectly positioned to offer a new center for breast health to our market.” Dr. Jack Considine
We have proven our commitment to Savannah by being the only Outpatient, Independent Imaging Center in the South East offering both High Field Open MRI and 3T MRI under the same roof. We want to make things as easy and comfortable as possible for every patient sent to us. Our patients are our neighbors, friends, and family. We all share the greatest bond in that we are all Savannahians. Every single patient that walks through the big red doors at Coastal Imaging will be treated with the utmost respect. They will hear Yes Sir and Yes Ma’am till the moment they leave. I passionately believe in treating everyone as you expect to be treated yourself.
WHEN AND WHY
Growing up as a very energetic and active young lad, I found myself in the emergency room quite often with lacerations, broken bones etc. Every time, after being put back together, I would walk out of the ER knowing that medicine was exactly what I wanted to do.
Prior to medical school, as a lifeguard I resuscitated a child who had drowned. Throughout the entire process, I had a calm over me, never panicking, realizing the training I had received prepared me for that moment. I would have to say that this was, at the least, a defining moment for me that cemented my desire to pursue a career in medicine.
Countless physicians, both deceased and still practicing, have had a profound effect on the way I practice medicine. I am blessed to have been shaped by many colleagues and mentors, and I hope that I can help pass on their legacies by practicing medicine the way it should be; with compassion, empathy, and always putting the best interests of the patient first.
The field of radiology is constantly evolving. From technological innovations such as such as 3T MRI, high field strength open MRI, color cartilage mapping, advanced prostate imaging, diffusion tensor imaging of the brain, the list goes on and on. Additionally, combined diagnostics are playing a large role in the future of medicine. Advanced imaging in conjunction with wet and dry biomarkers, AI, data analysis, genomics and biologics are the absolute tip of the spear in personalized healthcare, and will forever change the way we diagnose and treat disease.
There is a need for advanced, outpatient, breast imaging in our region. At Coastal Imaging we are committed to comprehensive, state of the art, diagnostic services and are perfectly positioned to offer a new center for breast health to our market.

Dr. Kristi L. Hofstadter-Duke / Changing behavior. Changing lives.
Savannah Behavioral Pediatrics is the only pediatric psychology practice in the Lowcountry specializing in assessment and treatment of child and adolescent challenges. They help parents and guardians better understand the challenges facing their children, and partner with families to change behavior, improve learning, and overcome developmental obstacles.
“Being a parent myself and having the experience of practicing what I preach has been the most eye opening and informative experience of my professional and personal life. Not only do I have an understanding of how to approach common parenting practices, but now I also know what the real-life challenges will be while parenting.” Dr. Kristi L. Hofstadter-Duke Pediatric Psychologist
We offer a unique specialty that involves the application of behavioral science to address behavioral problems that arise during childhood and adolescence. We are excellent at what we do because we only provide the services in which we excel.
WHEN AND WHY
I chose the specialty of behavioral pediatrics because of the far-reaching impact of behavioral treatment. The application of behavioral science can lead to improvements in any imaginable area of child and adolescent functioning.
Years ago, we began to get frequent requests for second-opinion evaluations, sometimes from families who lived states away. We continue to perform several second-opinion evaluations, making it clear that parents value our specialized approach as well as the individualized plan of care developed through our evaluation process.
Although I have several mentors who taught me countless valuable lessons, the people who have influenced my career the most are my own three children. Having been in the parenting trenches, so to speak, lends authenticity and common ground to my work with fellow parents and their children.
COVID-19 has had a big impact on children and adolescents and a corresponding impact on our practice. It has reduced in-person interaction opportunities, hidden social cues (i.e., masks), and made the world less predictable for children and adolescents. The results of these changes are far reaching, and we have seen a significant increase in child and adolescent stress, anxiety, and difficulty managing conflicts and social interchanges. The need for behavioral pediatrics is greater than ever, as our children need a foundation of stability and security during this unpredictable time period.

Dr. Matthew McLeod / Plastic Surgery / Migraine Surgery Pioneer
Savannah Plastic Surgery’s Dr. Matthew McLeod specializes in cutting edge surgical and non-surgical approaches to facial aesthetics, body sculpting, breast enhancement, and breast reconstruction. He has advanced training in laser and energy-based technology for non-surgical rejuvenation.
“My calm and focused approach creates an individualized patient experience that moves beyond the ordinary.” Dr. Matthew McLeod
I am proud to provide my patients with cutting edge surgical and non-surgical procedures for facial aesthetics, body sculpting, breast enhancement, and breast reconstruction. My calm and focused approach creates an individualized patient experience that moves beyond the ordinary.
WHEN AND WHY
I was attracted to the field of medicine because it offered the opportunity for innovation and the ability to perfect a craft. I received a degree in General Surgery at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, where I pursued research in melanoma, surgical nutrition, and health disparities in developing countries. I then received a Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, and pursued a Doctorate in Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine, graduating with honors.
I have outstanding moments every day, when I empower my patients to achieve their definition of beauty for themselves. It is very satisfying to help them meet their goals.
The outstanding people in my life are my five children who provide me with unwavering support and of course, my excellent staff.
I have advanced training in laser and energy-based technology for non-surgical rejuvenation. I am also the Medical Director of the Migraine Surgery Center of Georgia, LLC, offering minimally invasive techniques to decompress nerves in the face and neck that can trigger migraine attacks. I am very proud of this technology, as it is the first multi-disciplinary program for migraines in the state of Georgia and it has a great positive impact on the lives of patients and their families.

Drs. Scott Vann, Matthew McLeod, Barbara Davies, Luke Curtsinger / Plastic Surgery / Medical-Grade Skincare
Savannah Plastic Surgery was the first plastic surgery group in Savannah, Georgia. The practice was built on a strong history of service to the low country and our surgeons continue to earn the respect of our peers and the confidence of our patients. Dr. Barbara Davies, Dr. Luke Curtsinger, Dr. Matthew McLeod and Dr. Scott Vann uphold a foundation built on trust and a culture of listening to patients and working with them. Our entire staff reaches out to our patients to meet their every need.
“Our team takes pride in balancing the fine line between art and science for a completely personalized experience with unmatched results.” Savannah Plastic Surgery
Being at the forefront of cutting-edge technology and techniques, Savannah Plastic Surgery offers patients individualized options and care. We understand that no two people are alike.
WHEN AND WHY
Our expert team of board-certified plastic surgeons and board-eligible physicians has more than two centuries of collective experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery, helping patients across Georgia achieve their ultimate aesthetic goals. We are the penultimate center for cosmetic surgery, medical-grade skincare and life-enhancing services. Our team takes pride in balancing the fine line between art and science, for a completely personalized experience with unmatched results.
Every time we achieve what a patient was aiming for, that is an outstanding moment. This is emphasized by patient reviews such as, ‘Thank you Dr. Davies for giving me back my self-esteem and confidence.’ ‘Dr. Vann changed my life when I finally decide to have a tummy tuck.’ ‘Dr. McLeod cares about his patients and will never steer his patients wrong.’ ‘Dr. Curtsinger was thorough in his explanations and excellent at understanding my wishes.’
When Savannah Plastic Surgery was established back in 1980, it was one of the first such groups in the Southeast. The team was recently joined by injector specialist Karen Bouchard PA-C. Bouchard brings an amazing attention to detail, utilizing her background in art to provide natural, balanced and beautiful results. All procedures are completed with the latest technology available.
As with so many other healthcare providers, COVID-19 created new hurdles to both our practice and created new ways in which we support our patients. While vacations were put on hold, many began working remotely — the focus redirected inward — towards home improvements and self improvements. We were lucky to have remained busy during this time with both surgical and non-surgical procedures, while helping our patients to reach their best self. One of the biggest challenges was to ensure both our patients and staff followed the COVID-19 CDC guidelines to maintain a safe environment for all. We have been proud to support all heathcare providers during the Pandemic and will continue supporting the frontlines as we forge ahead.

Dr. Daniel Most / Reconstructive Surgery Cosmetic Surgery
Most Plastic Surgery provides a wide variety of cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries for about every part of the body, head to toe. Their focus is to take great care of you and improve your life.
“I treat patients like my own family members, with an emphasis on understanding their personalities, and really listening to their concerns and wishes.” Dr. Daniel Most
I treat patients like my own family members, with an emphasis on understanding their personalities, and I take great care to listen to each patient’s concerns and wishes.

My first year anatomy professor was Dr. Robert Chase, a world famous plastic surgeon, who became my mentor and role model.
Human face and composite body parts (such as hands) transplantation will eventually become commonplace and drastically change plastic surgery.
I had COVID last year and I have been triple vaccinated – unfortunately, I have lost family members and several patients due to this horrible disease. In our practice, we do everything we possibly can to ensure everyone’s safety.

Drs. Thomas Horn, John Paletta, Joe Campbell, Patrick J. Buchanan / Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
The Georgia Institute For Plastic Surgery uses a multifaceted approach to surgical and nonsurgical rejuvenation, and we are the only group in the region which specializes in microsurgical breast reconstruction. By using minimally invasive techniques combined with the latest innovations in surgical technique we’re able to provide patients with multiple options to achieve the outcome that they desire.
Dr. JP: My primary goal when meeting with a patient for the first time is to make sure their experience is fully catered for them. My job as a surgeon is to listen to each patient’s wants and needs, understand their goals, and discuss every option available so that together we can work toward the most optimal outcome for each individual.
Dr. TH: The relationships I build with my patients are developed over time, and they have put their trust in me. When we understand the patient’s desires, this assures we can strive for the best possible outcomes. My philosophy has always been that my patients are my top priority, and satisfactory surgical outcomes start with excellent patient care and communication.
WHEN AND WHY
Dr. PB: My practice is a blend of both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, so I meet patients at every age and stage of life. I specialize in body contouring procedures; 360 liposuction, ‘Around the World’ drainless tummy tucks, Mommy Makeovers, and much more. We also routinely perform surgical facelifts to provide a natural, refreshed look with age-defying results. Nothing gives my surgical staff and myself greater joy than sending a patient home with exactly what they wanted aesthetically, and newfound confidence in their appearance.
Dr. PB: I had a patient who was a hero and had served his country for 32 years in the National Guard when he was in a tragic car crash. It was one of the worst injuries I had ever seen and it was just at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many other doctors would have just taken the easy route of amputation, but I felt strongly that I could save his hand. He agreed to put his faith in me and he stayed the course through several surgeries and is now doing therapy to regain the use of his hand. His quality of life is now assured because he stayed dedicated to doing what was needed.
Dr. JC: In 2020, Dr. Buchanan (who specializes in complex hand/wrist and microsurgical reconstruction) founded the Savannah Aesthetic Institute, LLC, and used his extensive research background to create De Novo, a serum to drastically reduce the appearance of scars. We also have microsurgical breast procedures that allow for patients to have a reconstructed breast entirely of their own tissue, while avoiding some of the complications of earlier techniques. Our group has pioneered this in the area with over 200 microsurgical breast reconstructions performed.

Dr. Susan Timna, Dr. Cori Palmer / Audiology and Hearing Aid Services
As people are all different so are their hearing losses. We understand at Audiology and Hearing Aid Services the frustrations that hearing loss can bring and how important good communication is to stay active, healthy and happy.
“As the pandemic isolated all of us, her hearing loss was isolating her from her family, and she would go days without communicating. From the moment we put the devices on her, she could hear and started to cry. She could now enjoy her family again.” Dr. Susan Timna
Dr. CP: Our approach to care is to treat each patient as if they are a member of our own family. We create a hearing healthcare treatment plan for each patient based on their individual needs and concerns. We understand the frustration that comes with hearing loss, and we will do everything in our power to improve the hearing of our patients.
WHEN AND WHY
Our practice is unique. From the very first phone call to the Doctor of Audiology fitting the device, the goal is the same; to have a happy and hearing patient.
Dr. ST: There are just some days that you remember why you started in this profession. I remember having a patient brought in by her family that had a terminal illness who had lost most of her hearing. As the pandemic isolated all of us, her hearing loss was isolating her from her family, and she would go days without communicating. From the moment we put the devices on her, she could hear and started to cry. She could now enjoy her family again.
Our team, combined with cutting edge technology, means we have the ability to continue to be the best.
We never shut down during COVID-19, initially seeing patients in the parking lot in their cars. We stayed in touch through phone calls, emails and offered zoom sessions for care and function of patient’s devices. It gave us an opportunity to reflect and regroup to be more effective with our patient care than ever before. We also saw an increase in people struggling to hear since the mask took away the ability to lip read. Loss of aids due to mask wearing was also high so we were here to give them replacements and loaners.

Dr. Joe Overstreet / Optometry
The pioneering surgeons and staff at The Georgia Eye Institute have been setting new standards in cataract surgery, lens implantation, advanced retinal care, LASIK, glaucoma management, macular degeneration treatment, corneal disease and oculoplastic surgery.
“Following an ocular injury of my own while fishing as a youth — and the numerous weeks of follow ups — I wanted to help others in need.” Dr. Joe Overstreet
My approach is directed by my extensive education and clinical experiences, but it is even better through access to the most recent technology, equipment, and of course, my excellent staff at Georgia Eye Institute.
WHEN AND WHY
Following an ocular injury of my own while fishing as a youth — and the numerous weeks of follow ups — I was impressed by the doctors who helped me and I wanted to help others in need.
Countless cases stand out. I see it as a privilege and blessing in possessing the ability to help save vision and sometimes lives through the early detection of diseases through eye exams.
My best friend and godfather, James Stokes, has inspired and influenced my career and my life in such great ways.
Our field is constantly evolving and becoming more advanced. With the latest in technology and equipment we are able to better take care of the reason we are here, our patients.
I’m on the board of Savannah South Rotary. The Sapelo Saltwater Fishing Club will always be near and dear to me since my parents and I started the club at Shellman’s Bluff over 30 years ago.

Dr. Sidney P. Smith / Medical and Surgical Dermatology
The Georgia Skin and Cancer Clinic focuses on medical and surgical dermatology, as well as aesthetic services. The experienced medical team always serves their patient’s needs in a professional, caring, and personalized manner.
“Have you ever wondered why medicine doesn’t work like FEDEX or Amazon? You can track a pair of sneakers on Amazon as it travels to your door, but not track a breast biopsy that could be critical to your health? This bothered me. I believe a patient should know where in the cycle their test results are.” Dr. Sidney P. Smith
Patients need an advocate to shepherd them through their healthcare journey. We have access to the latest advances in dermatology and we love taking care of patients. They are the reason we show up each day. Each patient is unique with their own set of special moments that they wish to share with us.
WHEN AND WHY
During my Vanderbilt residency, I remember a challenging case of a patient where the dermatologist on call examined the patient and diagnosed a rare condition. The doctor was able to ascertain this because he questioned the patient about his schedule and activities, really listened to the answers and realized the patient stood out in the sun on Sundays, subsequently suffering the symptoms. After that day, I chose dermatology as my field.
The day my first patient walked through the door.
Ronny Harris, M.D., is a retired internist from Jesup, Georgia. He was the smartest doctor I know, able to diagnose the condition of a patient who had previously been to several other physicians. Those “old dog” physicians are few and far between now, and I consider myself lucky to have learned from him.
10 years ago, Dr. Smith’s family purchased the former Cohen’s Old Man’s Retreat property to create a unique destination for the Savannah community to enjoy. The Savannah Blarney Stone resides at the property, an actual piece of the Blarney Castle from Ireland. 100% of the funds raised go directly back to 10 local charities. Plans are also underway to plant 2,000 Royal Velvet camellias from Lake Mayer to DeRenne Ave., along the Truman bike path, and sponsor a southside parade in 2023 for charity as the camellias are in bloom.
Have you ever asked why you can track a package on Amazon, but not track a breast biopsy that could be critical to your health? This bothered me. I believe a patient should know where in the cycle their test results are. A new concept, called Pathology Tracker has been created and is patent-pending. Our tracker is now in select national labs with more to follow. This will change the future of medicine and allow patients to have more control of their medical care and experience.
We masked up and kept rolling because our patients needed us.

Dr. Victor Rosenfeld / Neurologic and Sleep Specialty Services
Rosenfeld Neurology and Sleep performs the full array of neurologic and sleep specialty services including neurocognitive, brain, nerve, muscle, vestibular and sleep testing as well as a full infusion suite.
“I originally went to Music School to be a percussionist and have a Platinum Record with Julio Iglesias, before changing career paths and going into neurology.” Dr. Victor Rosenfeld
At Rosenfeld Neurology & Sleep my team and I bring state of the art, cutting edge medical therapies for neurologic and sleep conditions with a personalized focus in a compassionate setting.
WHEN AND WHY
While at Emory School of Medicine, a Neurologist was giving a lecture that no one appeared to understand or be interested in. I knew right then that there was always going to be a need for this type of specialist and with each passing year we are in higher demand.
While trying to understand why many people have non-refreshing sleep, I stumbled upon a particular brainwave pattern that interfered with deep sleep by using quantitative EEG (electroencephalography), a technique I learned while doing brain mapping at U.C.L.A. This became published and widely reported in magazines, on news channels and is quoted in many medical books.
My father served in WWII and then went into medicine. I remember no matter where we went, people would always comment about what a great doctor he was and how he had helped them. I aspire daily to do the best I can to help people and treat them with respect and kindness.
Neurology has transformed from a largely diagnostic specialty into a field with many treatments for previously untreatable conditions due to the development of Intravenous Monoclonal Antibody Technology. We now have specific targeted treatments for Alzheimer’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, and migraines.
My father-in-law died of COVID-19 before the vaccine became available. That was a tremendous blow to our family that we have not and may not ever recover from.

Dr. John DeVaro, Dr. Elizabeth Bennett / Pediatric Eye Care / Ophthalmology / Strabismus Surgery
Children’s Eye Institute of Savannah provides a full spectrum of pediatric eye care, from premature infant eye exams to a first eyeglasses exam/contact lens fitting to eye muscle and pediatric cataract surgery.
“Kids are so inspiring and optimistic. We can learn and relearn a great deal from them when we pay attention to them.” Dr. John DeVaro
Dr. JD: We are the only practice in the region to provide a full spectrum of pediatric eye care, from premature infant eye exams to first eyeglass exams/contact lens fittings to eye muscle and pediatric cataract surgery.
WHEN AND WHY
Dr. JD: I’ve been interested in ophthalmology since early in college. But during medical school I was repeatedly drawn to the field of pediatrics. Pediatric ophthalmology was a perfect fit!
Dr. EB: The day my mother got her first pair of reading glasses after visiting our local optometrist, she described to me the process and her experience. That night I researched optometry as a career path and stuck with it ever since.
Dr. JD: The expression of surprise and happiness when a child dons their new glasses, the change in life for both parent and child when we remove visually significant cataracts – really, too many outstanding moments to count!
Dr. JD: We support the United Way, Second Harvest Food Bank, the Tybee Island Marine Center, and sea turtles everywhere and Dr. Bennett participates in Cornerstone Jamaica “See Better. Learn Better,” a non-profit organization that helps school children in Jamaica.
Dr. EB: We are excited by new treatments we can offer children to control myopia (nearsightedness), such as low-dose atropine eyedrops and MiSight contact lenses.
Dr. EB: Not allowing extra siblings to reduce the number of people in the office has been a blessing in disguise. We have been able to focus our attention on the patient in the exam chair and the parents are able to actively participate and be less distracted by other siblings.
