Miller Dental Group / Dental Implants and Specialty Services

The kind of dentists who always strive to make their patients feel relaxed and have a positive experience.

WHAT WAS YOUR JOURNEY INTO DENTISTRY?

Dr. Robert Miller: After graduating from UGA in 1986, I worked in the banking and chemical sales fields. I always felt that my real passion was in dentistry. At the age of 29, I went back to school for two years of prerequisites and qualified for admissions to Temple University Dental School. In 1999, I graduated and moved home to Savannah to begin my career and start my own dental practice. My first office was three operatories and four employees. Today, Miller Dental Group has grown to 15 operatories and 25 employees with two locations.

IF YOU WERE STANDING IN FRONT OF A CROWD, WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU LEAVE THEM WITH?

Dr. Miles Yarbrough: If shame or embarrassment is what is keeping you from addressing your dental needs, don’t let it stop you. Everyone goes through hard times and no one is perfect. Our job as dentists is not to judge, but to help ‘right the ship’ and help you to gain your confidence back.

“I AM THE KIND OF DENTIST WHO ALWAYS…”

Dr. Julie Howard: …takes the time to really listen to my patients and build my relationships with them in order to establish trust. I want them to know that I care about them, as a person, and their oral health.

DEFINING MOMENTS

Dr. Miles Yarbrough: I knew I had made the right decision in dentistry when patients voiced their gratitude for the dental work we have completed – whether it is getting them out of pain, delivering on their cosmetic goals or just having a pain-free appointment. I have been blessed to find a career that I truly love, and I enjoy going to work every day.

NEWEST, LATEST AND GREATEST

Dr. Micah Spivey: The invention of 3D printers and digital scanners has greatly improved dentistry not only for the practitioner but for the patient, as well. Scanners reduce the amount of treatment time and provides patients with more accurate crowns and bridges. 3D printers give dentists the opportunity to fabricate night guards, bleaching trays and a multitude of other appliances in-office at the patients’ convenience.

The Savannah Dentist

The kind of dentist who always tries to do the right thing, Dr. Mark Dye’s philosophy is that “If it isn’t broke don’t fix it.”

WHAT WAS YOUR JOURNEY INTO MEDICINE?

My journey into dentistry was a non-traditional path. Following my undergraduate degree in advertising and marketing with a minor in psychology from UGA, I obtained a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Radford University in Virginia, and worked as a counselor for about eight years. Approximately half-way through my tenure there I realized that this wasn’t my true passion. I knew that I wanted to work in the medical field and I wanted to work with my hands, have a finished product that I could look back on, and I wanted to be my own boss. After some soul searching I realized that dentistry would allow me to meet these goals and I started dental school at the age of 32.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT PRACTICING MEDICINE?

I love doing full-mouth restorative procedures, ie. crowns on all teeth. When patients come to you and they have dealt with years of not being happy with their smiles and they put their trust in you to help them reach their personal goals, it is an amazing feeling to watch their expression and the happiness in their eyes when they see the finished product.

DEFINING MOMENTS

Purchasing my own dental practice in January 2007 was a defining moment for me. After years of hard work and devotion to mastering my skills in the field of dentistry, becoming my own boss and controlling my own destiny affirmed all decisions that I had made.

NEWEST, LATEST AND GREATEST

I have been using a digital scanner for some time now, but the technology is a game changer. Patients love the fact that there are no more goopy impressions to deal with. 3-D imaging makes for faster services and less adjustments when placing the final restorations.

Savannah Dental

Savannah Dental’s highly trained doctors provide specialized and general dentistry, including root canal treatment, teeth whitening, implants, and cosmetics. We are happy to be welcoming Dr. William Verrillo, DDS and excited to be able to serve more patients in the community.

IF YOU WERE IN FRONT OF A CROWD, WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU LEAVE WITH THEM?

Stephanie Joy Sweeney, DMD: Your smile is your most important asset. I love seeing the way a person blooms after we restore their smile. Their confidence comes back and we see them succeed in their careers, expand their social lives, and many have gotten engaged afterwards too! It’s really cool to think how that then spreads happiness throughout our community. When you have the confidence to smile at others it releases endorphins (happy emotions) in you and in the person you smiled at. And it causes them to smile and continue to pass it forward. Giving people healthy confident smiles helps improve your life and our entire community!

“I AM THE KIND OF DENTIST WHO ALWAYS…”

SS: Sees the best in people. I always want you to live in a space that they feel confident to grow. This is what drives me to be better for my patients as well as my team each and every day.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PROCEDURE?

Robert Redenz, DDS: My favorite procedures to complete are smile makeovers. Whether the patient is self-conscious about discoloration, chipping of teeth, or missing teeth, it is amazing how someone’s life can completely change when they have a smile that they are proud of and confident with! 11. Whether it’s one to two teeth or the whole mouth, no procedure is too small to make a huge difference for the patient!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PROCEDURE AND/OR INSTRUMENT?

Procedure: cosmetic dentistry ( veneers, crowns) The excitement in the room when they see their new enhanced smile is indescribable.

DEFINING MOMENTS

As a dental student, I became the first student in Case Western Reserve to do a full mouth reconstruction on a middle age man who had worn down all his teeth. The deterioration and excessive weaving of his teeth due to grinding had progressively gotten worse over the years. He had stopped smiling due to the shame of his teeth. The problem became exacerbated when his grinding began to involve the nerves of many of his teeth. The day I finished restoring his teeth and giving him a new smile with full sized teeth, he began to cry with gracefulness. I began crying because I never knew I could positively impact someone’s life like in that moment.

NEWEST, LATEST AND GREATEST

PRP: protein rich plasma. This plasma which we harvest while the patient is in the office has a rich supply of stem cells. One way we can use the PRP is with bone grafting. This allows us to grow bone that is radiographically, more dense with better predictability. A few years ago, we could not even imagine being able to grow bone. Exciting times in dentistry!

WHAT IS A COMMON MISCONCEPTION IN YOUR FIELD?

Root canals are so painful. The key is being proactive. If the tooth starts hurting don’t wait until it is unbearable.
