Viking Strength Sports hosts Savannah’s first annual strength convention, giving “Savannah Strong” a whole new meaning.

S

avannah’s first-ever strength convention, featuring several thrilling competitions, is coming to the Convention Center on the first weekend of November. The city’s own Viking Strength Sports – a certified regional training facility for USA Powerlifting and boutique gym – will host the Veterans Day Open powerlifting competition, a qualifier for USAPL Regionals and Nationals in 2021 that is open to all competitor levels up to 150 participants. For those who don’t know, powerlifting consists of the squat, the bench press and the deadlift, aka “The Big Three.” There will be plenty of space for competitors to spread out and be properly socially distanced. If you’re looking to make your powerlifting debut or are a seasoned competitor ready to set the bar, this is the perfect event for you and the first of it’s kind in Savannah.

Throughout the weekend, America’s Strongest Man & Woman competition will take place with 50 professional lifters fighting for the top spot. Iron Resurgence’s strongman show has moved to Savannah, GA for 2020 and is the premiere professional event for America’s Strongest Man & Woman, a true must-see event. The first three events — circus DB, sandbag toss over bar, and Husafel Stone max distance carry — will take place on Saturday and the second three events — basket deadlift, arm over arm truck pull and sandbag load medley — will take place on Sunday. The iron stein hold will be the tiebreaker, if necessary. To see people attempt and (some) succeed in pulling an actual truck, you won’t want to miss this thrilling competition.

The Foundation for Scottish Athletics will be in attendance at Savannah Strength Con and will be hosting traditional Scottish Highland Games running various competitions sure to entertain. Embrace your inner warrior while spectating fierce challenges, carried on by generations of Scottish-Americans. Athletes can register here and spectators can watch free of charge!

The GBAC Council helps public and commercial facilities of all sizes establish and carry out an organized approach to cleaning, disinfection and infection prevention. Attendees are invited to enjoy food and beverage (including “plenty of alcohol”) as well as a Vendor Village with over 40 vendors. savannahstrengthcon.com.

Viking Strength Sports is also facilitating donations to the Empowerment Project through GoFundMe ahead of Savannah Strength Con. This cause benefits veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression and other mental illnesses and helps them access the support they need. Donors who contribute $250 or more will receive a vendor table free-of-charge from Viking Strength at Savannah Strength Con. The link to donate is here.
