Savannah College of Art and Design: The Place of STAR POWER
Congratulations and thank you SCAD for 45 years of “Star Power.” The legacy, impact, and creative force that is the Savannah College of Art and Design celebrates becoming FORTY FIVE in its 2023-24 academic year.
When you’re an institution as consistently and globally influential as SCAD, you celebrate anniversaries with a lot of pomp and circumstance. This year, the university saw the expansion of SCAD Atlanta with the mulit-purpose facility, FORTY FIVE added to FORTY and FORTY FOUR on Spring Street in Midtown. The new addition houses on-campus residential and academic resources for 400 students as well as a wellness center and amenities such as a lounge, pool, dining, and laundry; SCADshow, a new state-of-the-art theater including a mainstage that seats 700 and a black-box that seats 150; and a courtyard for open-air productions. A full year of events scheduled to acknowledge this milestone, kicked off at the start of the fall quarter with SCAD AnimationFest, which expanded this year to include gaming and virtual production, consistent with its leading role in a fast-growing industry, and welcomed execs and creatives from cornerstone media networks Netflix, Cartoon Network, FOX, FuseFX and more. SCAD Savannah Film Festival, the largest university run film festival in the world, welcomed more than 65,000 to the area and honored a laundry list of celeb guests, including George C. Wolfe, Jeff Nichols, Eva Longoria, Greta Lee, Ava Duvernay (director of much anticipated Origin, shot locally with over 50 SCAD students and alumni working on the film), and Kevin Bacon to name very few. Throughout the year, join in the festivities through interactive public events such as deFINE ART at SCAD Museum of Art in February as well as SCADstyle and Sidewalk Arts Festival in April. There are ongoing stage productions and screenings at Lucas and Trustees Theaters enchanting audiences throughout the year, and make sure to stop by SCADstory, shopSCAD, Gryphon, or Art’s Cafe whenever you’re on Bull Street near Madison Square.
