PRD to Host “Savannah Salutes” Memorial Day Weekend Celebration May 26-29

Plant Riverside District will host the 2023 “Savannah Salutes” Memorial Day Celebration from Friday, May 26 through Monday, May 29. This family-friendly event, which is free and open to the public, will take place along Savannah’s historic riverfront at 400 W. River St.

“We warmly invite area residents and visitors to join us for a very special Memorial Day weekend celebration at Plant Riverside District,” said Richard C. Kessler, Chairman and CEO of The Kessler Collection. “This annual event serves as our official kick-off for summer in Savannah and offers the opportunity for us to salute members of the armed forces for their service to our nation.”

This patriotic four-day event will include a special Memorial Day presentation by the Veterans of Foreign Wars on the Montgomery Park Stage on Monday, May 29 at 5 p.m. as well as free live music and food and drink options for all ages throughout the holiday weekend.

Featured performers include the Parris Island Marine Band on Saturday, May 27 at 1 p.m.; the Eric Culberson Blues Band on Sunday, March 28 at 1 p.m.; Hollifield on Sunday, March 28 at 6 p.m.; and Laiken Love and The Fellowship of Love on Monday, May 29 at 1 p.m.

Additional highlights include a Savannah Ghost Pirates Slapshot Booth on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28 from 2 to 6 p.m. as well as nightly fountain shows in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park at 9 p.m. featuring patriotic music and a tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces.

Throughout the holiday weekend, Plant Riverside District’s iconic smokestacks, fountains and other familiar landmarks will be illuminated with red, white and blue lights after dark.

Food and drink specials will be available daily at the exceptional restaurants at Plant Riverside District, including a full menu of Angus beef hamburgers and cheeseburgers, imported beers and craft beers at Riverside Burgers.

District Smokehouse and District Seafood will offer Memorial Day weekend favorites, including Chopped Brisket and Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Smoked Savannah Hot Wings, Fresh-Shucked Oysters, Fried Georgia Shrimp and specialty summer cocktails, including the Bohemian Beach, which is handcrafted with Bombay Gin, Blue Curacao and Peach Schnapps.

Hot dogs, gelato, popcorn and cold beverages will also be available for purchase along the riverfront.
