Plant Riverside District and Thomas Claxton’s “Me, Myself & Us” Productions are pleased to host the Bernard “Pretty” Purdie Drum Clinic at District Live, located at 400 W. River St., featuring instruction from Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, one of the most acclaimed drummers in rock, soul and R&B history, on Sunday, May 28 at 3 p.m.

This special drum clinic will offer attendees of all ages the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn the “Purdie Shuffle” from the creator of this signature drum pattern, which consists of a distinctive combination of bass, high-hat and snare rhythms. The memorable “Purdie Shuffle” rhythm can be heard on a variety of hit songs, including Toto’s “Rosanna,” The Police’s “Walking on the Moon,” Led Zeppelin’s “Fool in the Rain” and Steely Dan’s “Babylon Sisters” and “Home at Last.”

“We’re thrilled to have a living legend teach a drum clinic at District Live,” said Scotty Henley, Director of Entertainment at JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District. “We encourage drummers of all ages and experience levels to come out and learn from the best at the Bernard ‘Pretty’ Purdie Drum Clinic.”

Named one of the “greatest drummers of all time” by Rolling Stone, Purdie is a member of the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame who has recorded drum tracks for more than 4,000 albums and has worked with more than 2,500 artists. Over the years, he has collaborated with The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Steely Dan, Ray Charles, Hall & Oates, Peter Frampton, Bob Marley, Simon & Garfunkel, Otis Redding, Miles Davis and B.B. King.

“This clinic is about learning how to play the drums, but it’s also about having fun,” said Purdie. “I love helping people find their groove and making music that brings joy.”

Also in attendance will be all-star performers including Muscle Shoals rhythm guitarist Will McFarlane, David Bowie’s bassist Carmine Rojas and accomplished singer Roberta Freeman, who has worked with Guns N’ Roses, Pink Floyd and Mary Wilson’s Supremes.

General admission is $50 per person. Student admission is $25 per person (purchased on the day of the clinic with a valid ID presented at the door). Tickets are available on Eventbrite or by clicking HERE.

The first 50 student attendees will receive signature Bernard “Pretty” Purdie drumsticks by Drum Limousine. This premier event for drummers will also include three giveaways courtesy of Trinity Cymbals.
