This time of year, feeling inspired by the renewal of spring, we seek new opportunities to relax and rejuvenate. From the luxurious comforts of a spa day to basking in the serenity of the great outdoors to elevated dining experiences, Jackson County, North Carolina offers the perfect setting for an unforgettable spring break or getaway.

Cruise the Parkway

Simply driving the mountain roads in Jackson County can be awe-inspiring. The Blue Ridge Parkway offers a beautiful scenic drive and stops for easy hikes along the way. We love Waterrock Knob, right off the Parkway. Waterrock Knob is one of the 20 highest peaks in the Eastern US and this hike never fails to impress us with expansive views across the Plott Balsam Mountains all the way to the Smokies. Plus, the National Park Service shop is a great stop for souvenirs.

Farmer’s Markets & Boutique Shopping

Cashiers, just about an hour from Cherokee, is a charming mountain town on a high plateau. For us, our first stop here is Buck’s Coffee. We grab handcrafted espresso drinks and sit on the front porch to people watch. Afterwards, we love walking to Cashiers Farmers Market just down the street for local produce and handmade Appalachian goods. We also spend a few moments with the market’s family dogs who are regulars (and customer favorites) at the market. From there, the upscale boutiques offering everything from antiques to gifts to home decor fill our afternoon.

Award-Winning Restaurants

How did we get this far and not mention the food?! Whether we’re dining alfresco with a backdrop of the mountains or sitting at the chef’s bar taking in the action of the kitchen, dining takes on a new dimension in Jackson County. The Library Kitchen + Bar in Sapphire, NC, just a few minutes from Cashiers, is known for its eclectic atmosphere and unique farm-to-table dishes. In Sylva, we love Ilda on Main Street which offers Appalachian cuisine with an Italian twist. Each bite is a celebration of flavor, meticulously curated to tantalize the senses.
