Monday 5 Things…..Either/Or Redux…..
All this past week I grappled with two very different M5T’s for this morning. As I would write notes over the week, an internal dialogue with myself battled with “either/or” on two vastly different scribes. Side note, is it a bad thing to lose an argument with yourself? As of late Sunday night, I was still wrestling with the options, neither of which had revealed themselves as complete or coherent enough to be shared. Apropos to ‘Thanksgiving, I was inordinately thankful to realize, that despite my self-imposed frustration, I had written an ‘either/or’ M5T over 3 years ago. Surprised at realizing the preamble could very well have been written this past week, and with a sigh of relief, I was able to make deadline with revived choices of either/or for this morning’s M5T.
Whilst imbibing and savoring a libation or two referenced in today’s #5, it was one of those weeks of metaphysical and existential introspection, convergent processing, and assessing a state of mind, all of which contributed to this morning’s M5T.
1. Traveler or Tourist?
Between the choice of either a traveler or a tourist, I choose traveler. I’d rather immerse myself in a different culture, delight in new foods and aromas, take the road less travelled, explore alleys, experience people by asking questions and talking, and not let my time be dictated by a schedule.
2. Light or Dark?
Between the choice of either light or dark, I choose light. I’d rather bring light and color to people that cross my path, purposefully set out to emblaze, determined to make a difference, and start each day with a fresh canvas, seeing and painting a life from a diverse pallet of colors.
3. Called or Driven?
Between the choice of either being called or driven, I choose called. I prefer to live with passion and purpose, having a well-defined raison d’être, embracing my mission in life, and running and winning the good race, finishing well.
4. Chess Player or Chess Piece?
Between the choice of either being the chess player or the chess piece, I choose to be the chess player. I aspire the wisdom to evaluate, strategize, set goals, see patterns, improve my position, and make long term plans that are best for my life, not what others dictate for me.
5. Crystal or Glass?
Between the choice of either using the fine crystal or regular glass, I choose the crystal. I prefer to live each day fully, opting for drinking from the finest crystal, eating off the best china, lazing in the softest Egyptian linens, opening the best bottle of wine or the oldest bottle of scotch, and being intentional about excellence and aiming high.
Here’s to a week of choosing either/or’s that enhance, broaden, excite, uncover passions, and make you feel alive. And just in case you are wondering, I’d choose yellow!
