Monday 5 Things….Just Be…..

spent three days in the Blue Ridge mountains photographing over 50 classic air-cooled Porsches at the 2020 Targa Carolina event in Little Switzerland, NC. The invite-only gathering will be featured in an upcoming Duck and Whale article scribed by Jim Goodlett with images by yours truly. I was co-pilot for Ryan Reeves as he brilliantly threw his Carrera 4S around the straights and corners up and down the mountain routes. At speed. Three-digit speed. Throw you back into your seat speed. Giggling like a little-kid speed. Heart pounding in your throat as corners got tighter and tighter speed. Eyes wide, laugh out loud speed. Focusing on not falling off a mountain side speed. Struggling to focus my camera on the car ahead of us speed. Each morning started with a brilliant sunrise illuminating fog and cloud shrouded valleys between the mountains. Each evening finished with a full moon rising whilst dining and laughing with old and new-found friends. We started on Route B. We spent each hour of each day just being in the moment. Those ‘Be’s’ inspired this morning’s M5T.

1. Be Constant.

With your trust, never separate who you are with your family, your friends, your business, or your vocation. Remember where you came from. Develop and embrace your personal rituals.

2. Be Disciplined.

With your faith, your beliefs, your goals, and your time. Understand the power of saying no. Commit to what is most important to you. Accept responsibility for your happiness. Focus. Admit your weaknesses but build on your strengths. Details do matter.

3. Be Tenacious.

When it comes to what you want to accomplish, never surrender. Focus on the process. Push for progress over perfection. Start even if you’re not ready. Adapt to obstacles. Keep your vision in front of you. Always. Never be afraid to restart when necessary.

4. Be Positive.

Make the effort to be a blessing and encouragement for anyone who crosses your path. Focus on solutions, not just the problem. Exercise gratitude. Actively try to make someone’s day. Change your perspective. Celebrate victories. Smile.

5. Be Engaged.

If you take the time to do something, or be with someone, don’t just show up, live in the moment by listening, encouraging, and focusing on the other person. Know your passions and use them. Make the situation personal.

Here’s to a week of “Be’s” wherever you are, with whatever you want to accomplish, and with whoever you are with.
