"Monday 5 Things" with D. Paul Graham
Monday 5 Things…..Re…..
There is one, sort of, strange thing that I have done since high school (those that know me better at this point are likely saying ‘only one strange thing?’, but I shall not go there); I keep track of the weeks remaining in any given year. Including today, there are only 19 weeks and 19 Mondays remaining in this our anno horribilis. I realize that at this point, some of you are preempting your reading of M5T as you pull up your calendar and count the remaining weeks. That’s ok – we’ll wait. We have been dealing with Covid for longer than there are weeks left in 2020. As I contemplated this fact whilst sipping and savoring a spicy lavender latte waiting for breakie to be served, I was listening in on the conversation at the table next to me. The guy kept using ‘Re’ before making his point to the man across from him. “Re, that meeting… Re our conference…Re my marriage…Re your girlfriend…Re our game of golf next weekend… Re your car…Re the menu…” and on and on it went with the Re’s. I felt like I was listening to an audible book of a legal contract agenda! While I stifled the urge to literally laugh out loud, worried that he may suffer from some sort of medical condition, M5T began to take form. On that note, Re this morning’s M5T, we take a look at Re’ing during a pandemic.
Recover your state of balance from the changes imposed on us all during Covid. Restrain your fear of the unknown and of things you can’t change. Resist trying to define normal as what you used to do. Take time to recuperate and recharge the health of your mind, body, and spirit. Resurface from your home – take a meal out, see some friends, drive on some back roads. Redouble your efforts to take action and move forward no matter how much change has been forced upon you.
Reframe your perspective on what is going on in your life and in the lives of others. Be respectful of how others deal with this even when you don’t agree with them. Refrain from negativity and repeat positivity. Refine ways that let you relax. Give yourself reprieve from regrets. Remember and retain the good stuff in life.
Rethink what is truly important to you. Refresh and refocus on healthy habits. Replenish your energy with some exercise. Reverse engineer where you want to be. Review and readjust the priorities of your time. Receive grace, blessings, and things to be thankful for that are all around you if you take the time to notice.
Reinvest in yourself. Rekindle your dreams. Reaffirm who you really are and who you want to be. Refresh the vision of the life you want to live. Re-gauge your actions and choices that will bring you to realizing that vision. Regroup or even retreat temporarily if necessary. Remember why you started something in the first place. Reflect on what your best life would look like.
Take some time to rediscover your passions, your gifts, your talents and the things that give you profound joy in life. Recommit to achieving your goals. Refuse to give up. Reaffirm those you love. Revise and refresh the why’s of what you are doing, what you want, and where you are going. Refashion your day with something new: take a different route; wear something out of your norm; if you’ve been dressing like a schlep these past few months, put on the clothes that you know you look good in and go out somewhere to be seen; check your state of mind; sing a song out loud in your car. Reactive the real you.
Re, this week ahead of us ….. here’s to a week of all the right Re’s in your life.
