Lucas Theater
The Lucas Theatre, built by Arthur Lucas, opened in 1921 in the era of opulent movie palaces. Architect C.K. Howell combined Greek revival, art deco, and neoclassical styles for the design. The theater closed in 1976, and after a period of time was slated for demolition. The theater was saved and fully restored, opening once again in 2000. Now the theater is the home of a wide range of community uses in addition to top-notch local and international entertainment. Home to the Savannah Music Festival, the Savannah Film Festival, and the Savannah Philharmonic, the Lucas provides the venue for a multifaceted experience for tourists and locals alike!
