In the Summer of 1979 on Hilton Head Island, S.C., Mike Overton launched Sailin’ Shoes Windsurfing on a card table in the back of the South Beach General Store, selling windsurfing lessons to island visitors. Over the course of the next 44 years, the windsurfing venture matured into one of the largest adventure companies in the Lowcountry, Outside Brands.

With the company roots firmly planted on Hilton Head, S.C., Outside has successfully branched into Palmetto Bluff and most recently, Savannah, Ga. Boasting five divisions: leisure recreation, specialty retail, team building, destination management and an associated non-profit, Outside Savannah has much to offer the Coastal Empire.
