TELL US OF YOUR JOURNEY INTO MEDICINE

My father was a general surgeon in WWII and then in Marion, SC, the town that I grew up in. He started with an office, a very small operating room, and three or four bed hospital. This expanded further with time. I started assisting him in surgery at age 14. Science, medicine, and surgery has been my goal as far as I can remember. My mother, a pianist and artist, saw a Life magazine all about plastic surgery when I was a child and encouraged me to seek that as a goal. I’m very grateful to them both for their contributions toward plastic surgery and work ethics.

“I AM THE KIND OF DOCTOR WHO ALWAYS…”

…tries to find a better way to achieve the patient’s goals with equivalent or better results, but with less discomfort, minimal recovery, and less expense. With me, it’s all about the patient.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT PRACTICING MEDICINE?

Primarily, it is about people and making them healthy and/or happy with themselves. Also, medicine and plastic surgery are an endless frontier, so there’s always new technology and methods to learn which I find extremely interesting and challenging. Plastic surgery also satisfies the artistic side of me. It’s all very motivating for me.

NEWEST, LATEST AND GREATEST

The latest technology for non-surgical treatment for aging is in the field of lasers, radiofrequency, collagen stimulating lifting-threads, and filler-like products that stimulate production of collagen, elastin, and/or grow fat in depressions and hollows of the face and body. These technologies also tighten and resurface skin of the face and body more effectively with less recovery and discomfort.

IF YOU WERE IN FRONT OF A CROWD, WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU LEAVE WITH THEM?

You are not going to get another body. Educate yourself to keep the one you have healthy. It starts with diet and exercise.
