“Being a parent myself and having the experience of practicing what I preach has been the most eye opening and informative experience of my professional and personal life. Not only do I have an understanding of how to approach common parenting practices, but now I also know what the real-life challenges will be while parenting.” Dr. Kristi L. Hofstadter-Duke Pediatric Psychologist

APPROACH

We offer a unique specialty that involves the application of behavioral science to address behavioral problems that arise during childhood and adolescence. We are excellent at what we do because we only provide the services in which we excel.

WHEN AND WHY

I chose the specialty of behavioral pediatrics because of the far-reaching impact of behavioral treatment. The application of behavioral science can lead to improvements in any imaginable area of child and adolescent functioning.

OUTSTANDING MOMENT

Years ago, we began to get frequent requests for second-opinion evaluations, sometimes from families who lived states away. We continue to perform several second-opinion evaluations, making it clear that parents value our specialized approach as well as the individualized plan of care developed through our evaluation process.

OUTSTANDING PERSON

Although I have several mentors who taught me countless valuable lessons, the people who have influenced my career the most are my own three children. Having been in the parenting trenches, so to speak, lends authenticity and common ground to my work with fellow parents and their children.

COVID-19 CHALLENGES

COVID-19 has had a big impact on children and adolescents and a corresponding impact on our practice. It has reduced in-person interaction opportunities, hidden social cues (i.e., masks), and made the world less predictable for children and adolescents. The results of these changes are far reaching, and we have seen a significant increase in child and adolescent stress, anxiety, and difficulty managing conflicts and social interchanges. The need for behavioral pediatrics is greater than ever, as our children need a foundation of stability and security during this unpredictable time period.
