YOUR JOURNEY INTO MEDICINE

I was following the flow at Penn State (undergrad) taking generic liberal arts courses, and about halfway through, my guidance counselor said it was beyond time for me to declare a major. He noted that I was good at the sciences and wanted to help people somehow, so he suggested I go to medical school. It was the funniest thing I’d heard in a long time, but when I shared the joke with my mother she said: ‘Well, dear, I think that’s a wonderful idea!’

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT PRACTICING MEDICINE?

So many people search for the meaning or purpose in their lives – medicine has given me a huge purpose: to help people feel better about themselves, improve self-esteem, and make people overall happier. How awesome is that? I am so honored and humbled to be able to contribute to peoples’ lives like that – it’s like a gift to me to be able to practice surgery!

WHAT IS A COMMON MISCONCEPTION IN YOUR FIELD?

‘Plastic surgery doesn’t leave scars.’ We absolutely do, we just know how to hide them better! And there is no actual plastic used in our surgery, the name comes from the Greek word ‘plastikos’ which means to shape or mold.

DEFINING MOMENTS

When a very adorable young lady told me that after her surgery she could now leave the lights ‘on’…!

NEWEST, LATEST AND GREATEST

While not totally brand new, radiofrequency and micro needling have been combined in up to date ways to give much better results with skin tightening than ever before. The three devices we have are Scarlett (milder serial treatment – easiest recovery but longer treatment plan), Agnes (stronger, still serial treatments but faster results), and Profound (which is usually a ‘one and done’ treatment but more ‘profound’ recovery.)
