The Savannah Clovers FC played their first game in their inaugural season this year and have already accumulated a massive fanbase in the city of Savannah.
“This state has always been a big soccer-play-ing area.” Jesse Aguirre, the team’s Marketing Director, explains, “The reason why the Savannah Clovers would captivate an audience is because the level of technical ability that the players exhibit is something that has never been seen before in this area.”
Aguirre adds, “What makes the Savannah Clovers so beloved is that there has always been a desire to play this sport in Georgia. It’s always been there, it’s always been bubbling. It just needed that right match.”
Founded in 2016 as an amateur club, it was in 2022 that they became a professional team when they joined NISA (The National Independent Soccer League).
New Players
Since then, the Savannah Clovers have expanded their team by signing five members. Jack Crichton, Goalkeeper – (Colwyn Bay FC), Max Rugova, Forward – (Gold Star Detroit FC), Cameron Schneider, Midfielder – (Gold Star Detroit FC), Alejandro Cruz, Midfielder – (Pro Contract), and Jack Proctor, Midfielder – (Amateur Contract).
NISA Independent Cup Southern Region Championship
The Savannah Clovers now proudly hold the title of 2023 Southern Region Champions of the NISA Independent Cup, which was their first trophy for the association. The match was against Soda City FC, which they won 2-0 in the Final of the Cup played on Saturday, July 22. The team’s winger, Alex Lerides, scored both goals.
New Sponsor
In August, the Savannah Clovers partnered up with a new beer sponsor, Creature Comforts Brewing Co. It was announced that they were raising funds for a local organization, Renegade Paws Rescue. The Savannah Clovers created a memorable themed night match called “Bigger Dreams.”
They’re only in their inaugural season and have already grown so much, “We want to invite everyone in the community to come and experience it and help it grow.”
