Salt Island Fish & Beer delivers when it comes to light and fresh beach food made from local ingredients. A restaurant with “beer” in its name better have an amazing selection of the stuff and this place does not disappoint! Owners Emily and Eric Liebtag have created a mouthwatering menu and a gorgeous restaurant a hop, skip and a jump from the water on Tybee Island. Together, the two have more than 20 years of culinary experience. Tybee means “salt” in the Euchee Tribe’s language, a group that lived in the islands in the 14th century. Salt comes in many forms at the restaurant: it’s in the food, the drinks, in the salty water, and in the air.
Some highlights of the menu include: blue crab poutine, Prince Edward Island mussels, brisket grilled cheese, street tacos, country styleshort ribs, and Salt Island fish stew. One special non-fish dish is kalua pig, a Hawaiian luau food that is smoked, slow roasted, and basted in its own juices. You can also create your own plate by choosing your fish and then picking the seasoning and preparation. The craft beers that are served come from local breweries, and the cocktails menu is crafted as well.
