Beer Fest: A Great Reason To Get up in the Morning

A morning beer fest? What a perfect reason to get out of bed.

Let’s be honest. If you don’t occasionally start drinking in the morning, you’re just not trying hard enough. Savannah Bananas is giving you an excellent reason to breakfast with a beer in your hand at Tap of the Morning at Grayson Stadium from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1.

No, they’re not kidding.

It’s Savannah’s first official morning beer fest. (We’re well aware that the St. Patrick’s Day parties have no beginning and no end, but that’s different. They have no clock whatsoever.)

“Everything we try to do is different,” said Bananas owner Jesse Cole. “After all, you can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning. Why a morning beer fest? Why not?” Indeed. “There is nowhere else in the country that a morning beer fest would work,” Cole said.

Tap of the Morning will include food trucks with breakfast fare and craft beers with a breakfast-y feel. (One of our favorite beers is an espresso porter. Not a breakfast beer? Who are they kidding? We are not fooled.)

If that’s not enough, Bananas is having a second beer fest, Afternoon Delight, from 2 to 5:30 p.m. the same day with different vendors and different food trucks. VIP tickets for $250 include both festivals and as much opportunity to sample 100 craft beers as you would like. There will be live music all day.

“We’re going to have nearly 40 breweries there, both local ones and nationally known ones, like Dogfish Head,” Cole said. (Free naps available on the outfield. Bring your own blankie.)

If you want to hit only one fest, tickets are $35. Bananas is selling fewer than 1,000 tickets to the two events.

"We don’t want lines. Who wants to wait in the long line to get a beer?"

We really recommend the morning festival, because again, why not? We suspect this is just the start of a new Savannah tradition.

Good morning and cheers!
