Bar Crawl 2017 Part I

Once again South magazine has compiled the greatest bars in the south for you to plan the most epic bar crawl ever. from dive bars to high-end lounges, there is something for everyone. so grab some friends and get ready to have the most memorable (or not) night of your life.

Did you take a trip to Savannah  to check out its rich architecture, to learn about the colorful history, and try out our delicious Southern cuisines? Did you know you can do all of those things while drinking? It’s another one of this city’s finest features. Whether you’re interested in taking a walk around cemeteries and spooky houses on a ghost tour, and packed a brown paper bag, or you stopped at Wet Willie’s on the way to pick up a frozen daiquiri in a to-go cup, or you’re checking out the Historic District and all the shops on River Street with a couple of beers from Barracuda Bob’s, it’s encouraged! Each bar you visit will have its own idea of what the South is like, and the drinks are just as unique as the people. Everyone who loves to drink has a drink that’s “theirs,” a drink that is a must-have, a drink that is to-die-for. We all have one drink that makes us feel good no matter what. Maybe it’ll be one of these! Whether it’s a Painkiller, or a Skyline Cocktail, or maybe it’s just a nice pint of Georgia beer, South shows you where to start, and where to finish the night. Saddle up with your drinking shoes.

Top Deck | 125 W River St, Savannah, GA | 912.436.6828 |

It seems that the best bars also come with the best views. Right on top of the Cotton Sail Hotel, you’ll be situated in a prime location to enjoy the Savannah River and Talmadge Bridge. The view is upscale, but the environment remains causal. The ideal drink to sip is the Fleur De Lys, made with cucumber vodka and green chartreuse.

Totally Awesome Bar | 107B Whitaker St. | 912.495.5945 | @totallyawesomebar

This is Savannah’s only themed bar, and they do it well. A revival of 80s and 90s pop culture surges through this basement bar complete with black-lights, vintage arcade games and drinks named after the decade’s greatest characters, like Pac Man. I’ll bet you didn’t realize how much you wanted to play skee-ball with a cocktail in hand until right about now, huh? Stumble on down the stairs into this spunky pool hall and get totally tubular at Totally Awesome Bar!

The Jinx | 127 W Congress St. | @thejinx912 | 912.236.2281

This eclectic bar on Congress Street has regular Hip Hop Nights, Rock N’ Roll Bingo Nights and hosts burlesque shows all under one roof.  Live music is an integral part of The Jinx, but it doesn’t stop there. Most nights have a theme or show going on. The walls are covered in artwork, and the room contains plenty of interesting sculptures.

The Rail Pub | 405 W. Congress St. | | 912.238.1311

Rule #9 of The Rail Rules: “The Only drink that is blended here is Whiskey.” This is a fun, keep-you-on-your-toes kind of place full of locals and visitors curious about the locals, where you can get a 40oz beer in a paper bag. Here, it’s all about the atmosphere. There’s another bar located upstairs with karaoke nights, and The Rail has an outdoor patio as well. It’s truly what all of your dive bar fantasies are made of.

Edgar’s Proof and Provision | 15 E Liberty St. |

Edgar’s Proof and Provision is located at the Desoto Hotel, one of Savannah’s more stunning hotels with it’s perfect location in the middle of the city. It also features a beautiful collection of artwork in the lobby worthy of a gallery, and a pool terrace to take in the views. Inside the Desoto you’ll find a charming café to grab a quick bite and a to-go cup for a “Sip & Stroll” walking tour. In addition, discover Edgar’s Proof and Provisio. Inside are a multitude of different bourbons, including their inhouse, private label called “Edgar’s Truth” bourbon.

Congress Street Social Club | 411 W Congress St. | 912.238.1985 |

The Social Club was named aptly, with an outdoor seating venue to people watch, pool tables, foosball tables, ping-pong and more. They have 30 beers on tap, but you might be more interested in their selection of bourbon. Social Club houses 121 different types of bourbon, and whether you’re a Whiskey Sour or an “on the rocks” kind of bourbon fan, you’ll find something to please your palate.

a. Lure | 309 W Congress St. | 912.233.2111 |

a. Lure has bourbon cocktails in spades. One in particular to check out is the Ginger Skyline made from ginger infused bourbon, hand-crafted, with some fresh citrus, ginger simple syrup, and red wine.
