Veteran and minority owned, the newest art boutique and creative studio in Savannah’s City Market invites you to shop, create, or “Learn to Heal Creatively.”

Surviving childhood abuse and trauma, co-owner Mamie Atkins found art through being severely depressed and suicidal.

“The moment I put the color to canvas something broke within me,” Atkins says of discovering healing through painting when a stranger told her, “God turns sorrow into something beautiful.”

Now she and husband, veteran Carl Atkins, have opened their “eccentric” combo of woodworking and acrylic art and jewelry making. Their studio is teeming with handmade gifts from fine art and custom wood décor to boho and Afrocentric jewelry, and now healing mind and body through hand poured soy wax candles and scented shea butters.

With an eye toward more than just a gallery, boutique, and creative studio, they’re here to help “make something beautiful from broken lives.”

Atkins’ student, Mariah Powell can attest to the benefits of art therapy. “We both cried, we talked, I painted and we both sat and listened. Sometimes we need a safe space to just sit and listen and allow creativity to flow without judgment of being good enough or done correctly. That is where we can discover the most intimate, creative, unique spaces within ourselves.”

Atkins’s biggest desire is to build a campus with a children’s home and homeless or women’s shelter.

In the meantime, this power couple artfully explains they’re “using our gifts to create your gifts,” and inviting you to shop or create with them in-studio or on location through “art for the heart” and “painting with a purpose.”
