Step Into the Octagon

One of the first times in human history that mankind felt that first tug of adrenaline was when squaring off against an opponent, with that fight-or-flight reflex urging his every nerve into action. It is one of the most pure forms of adrenaline on the planet, stepping into that ring and knowing that flight is not an option. All that is left is to fight and win, or get our bell run in the most painful way.

Obviously, we’d all prefer that first scenario. So if you’re planning on stepping into the ring and chasing that primordial adrenaline rush, you’re going to want to train up a bit. Here in Savannah, we’re blessed with one of the most thorough MMA instruction schools around in Champions Training Center (4501 Montgomery St a, Savannah, GA, ctcsavannah.com). Classes led by certified experts range from grappling and boxing to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and even Muy Thai, where an affiliation with six-time world champ Manu Ntoh lends serious credibility. Their focused approach lets you hone your skills in a litany of fighting styles that will give you the edge when you step into the ring.

Even if you just want to pick up some skills without necessarily testing them out in a make-or-break scenario, you’ll find plenty of opportunities around here to spar. Check out Savannah Combat Club (715 E 37th St, Savannah, GA, savannahcombatclub.com), Pooler Karate and Krav Maga (110 Towne Center Blvd #200, Pooler, GA, poolerkaratetsd.com) or Riptide Mixed Martial Arts (36 Persimmon St, Bluffton, SC, riptidemma.com).

Find Your Inner Devil

Don’t ever let anyone tell you women are the weaker sex. If they do, just show them the tough as nails femme fatales of Savannah’s own roller derby wrecking crew, the Derby Devils. Think you have what it takes to join? Visit savannahderby.com.

Sleep with Spirits

Now a beautiful Savannah Hotel, the Marshall House was used as a hospital for Civil War wounded and later for Yellow Fever victims. Some say those souls lost there still wander the halls, waiting to terrorize the living. Sweet dreams! 912.644.7896
