Why You'll be Mad You Missed the South Carolina Ballet's Aladdin
Savannah has the privilege of welcoming the South Carolina Ballet's epic production of Aladdin to town and trust us, you'll be sad you missed it. A dynamic performance full of color and wonder, Aladdin is a show the whole family will love.
Conceptualized and choreographed by Artistic Director William Starrett, South Carolina Ballet presents the premiere of Aladdin for one night only on February 20th. Join Aladdin and Jasmine on their magic carpet and journey into ancient Persia as the crew transforms the Savannah Civic Center for one enchanting evening.
Just because it's a family show, does not mean the adults won't enjoy it. This isn't Disney's Aladdin. This is the ballet.
South Carolina Ballet uses the musical score of composer Ludwig Minkus into the classic fairytale based on Arabian Nights. “Aladdin is a huge epic ballet, technically demanding for the dancers, visually thrilling for the audience and perfect for the entire family. It is such fun to see Aladdin and Jasmine flying on their magic carpet as the Genie grants Aladdin’s famous three wishes,” says Starrett.
And you'll see that carpet fly. At one point, the famous couple soar over 80 feet into the air! We told you the show was dynamic.
It's so dynamic that it's been 13 years since the company has put on the show. The show is so demanding for both the dancers and the production crew, they have to wholeheartedly prepare. And it shows.
This three-act performance is developed from four of Minkus’ most memorable ballets including Paquita, and La Bayadere; excerpts are incorporated into the score of Aladdin. Ballerina Regina Willoughby and Principal Dancer Christopher Miro will dance the roles of Princess Jasmine and Aladdin. Reinaldo Soto will be featured as the Genie.
Tickets are still available and start at $25. They can be purchased at the box office, at savannahcivic.com or by calling 912-651-6556.
It's the perfect night out with the family, or even better, the perfect date night! Trust us, you'll be sad you missed this breathtaking show!
