Bull Street Library: The Place of Knowledge
Surrounded by late-Victorian homes and adjacent to a small city park modeled on the squares in historic downtown Savannah, Bull Street Library opened for use in November 1916. The Library was furnished largely by a grant from the Carnegie Corporation.
The building’s neoclassical design was provided by architect H. W. Witcover, who also designed Savannah’s City Hall.
Within, the library features ornate curved wooden wall installations, and enormous windows looking out into the canopy of surrounding live oak trees.
One of the largest libraries in Live Oak Public Libraries’ 16-branch system, Bull Street Library serves as a community hub for free library programming, meeting places, social services and of course, the lending of books, movies and other media.
Bull Street Library still actively serves Savannah to this day, and furthers Live Oak Public Libraries’ mission to provide excellent, responsive service to enrich people’s lives, support lifelong learning, and to build and enhance our communities in Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty counties.
