Teresa Cowart wants to be remembered for making a difference in people’s lives. “Whether it’s my family, team, clients or the community, I feel it is imperative to leave the world a better place than you found it.”
My grandmother used to tell me, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” I have never forgotten it. SInce 2005, Cowart has been in the real estate world. Rising from top producing single real estate agent to nationally recognized award winning leader of the #1 team in the area since 2011 the Teresa Cowart Team, CO Owner of RE/MAX Accent since 2013 and a speaker in the real estate world. After her last daughter left for college, Cowart found herself committing to more and more charitable events. In November of 2020, in the midst of masks and Covid, she was called by a friend to list a unique property with a large barn, several smaller buildings and 14 acres in the area. She came to the appointment with a listing agreement and left with a handshake deal to buy it herself. It had been family owned property that was not being used much, but Cowart saw the potential. For a business yes, but also as a great place to offer the charities she loved, a place to hold events and a way to help them raise money. Since the first pop up market event, Bellhaven has since hosted CURE, SD Gunner, Combat Boots to the Boardroom, a victims conference, other local charities and of course, the Easter Bunny and Santa. Two and a half years later, there is not one area that has not been renovated, updated and decorated. Belhaven is booked almost every weekend for a wedding, party or event, and plans for expansion are underway. Summertime promises a few days with waterslides and games for local kids, tea parties and more. “I love my family, real estate and my team. We do this together,” said Cowart. “It’s about Legacy for me. When I’m gone I want to be remembered for more than real estate. I want to be remembered for making a difference and leaving a footprint of love.”
