Procedure: cosmetic dentistry ( veneers, crowns) The excitement in the room when they see their new enhanced smile is indescribable.

DEFINING MOMENTS

As a dental student, I became the first student in Case Western Reserve to do a full mouth reconstruction on a middle age man who had worn down all his teeth. The deterioration and excessive weaving of his teeth due to grinding had progressively gotten worse over the years. He had stopped smiling due to the shame of his teeth. The problem became exacerbated when his grinding began to involve the nerves of many of his teeth. The day I finished restoring his teeth and giving him a new smile with full sized teeth, he began to cry with gracefulness. I began crying because I never knew I could positively impact someone’s life like in that moment.

NEWEST, LATEST AND GREATEST

PRP: protein rich plasma. This plasma which we harvest while the patient is in the office has a rich supply of stem cells. One way we can use the PRP is with bone grafting. This allows us to grow bone that is radiographically, more dense with better predictability. A few years ago, we could not even imagine being able to grow bone. Exciting times in dentistry!

WHAT IS A COMMON MISCONCEPTION IN YOUR FIELD?

Root canals are so painful. The key is being proactive. If the tooth starts hurting don’t wait until it is unbearable.
