The Dance-Off of the Year: Savannah vs. Alzheimer’s Disease

On May 6th, The Dancing Stars of Coastal Georgia will be hosting a dance-off to remember.

Have you seen the newest Will Ferrell movie? He and Mark Wahlberg team up in the comedy “Daddy’s Home”, and if you haven’t seen it, beware – ** SPOILER ALERT **.

If you have seen it, you should remember the dramatic climax in the school gymnasium, where it appears as though a fight is about to break loose – punches have already been thrown, a circle has formed around the opponents, and a gang of excited prepubescents look on and tremble with anticipation.

And then – bad-to-the-bone, slicked hair, leather boots, and hardened muscle Mr. Wahlberg (a.k.a. “Dusty”) – starts to dance.

And then Ferrell (a.k.a. “Brad”) starts to dance.

And then EVERYBODY starts to dance, and in some kind of wild, spontaneous dance-off, the tensions are diffused, the conflict resolved, and the party goes on.

Obviously, problems are best solved by dancing.

And apparently, the Georgia chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association understands that.

This May 6th, The Dancing Stars of Coastal Georgia will be hosting a dance-off to remember. Alzheimer’s, get ready to meet your maker.

Thirteen local celebrity dancers, thirteen professional dancers, and one goal: $300,000 towards research and the programs and services provided for individuals with Alzheimer's disease, as well as their families and caregivers. Does that sound achievable? Well, it isn’t achievable – without you.

Each one of these thirteen celebrity dancers, (Jules DeJesus Fritz, Kim Hunsinger, Allison Adams, Karen Robertson, Jodi Clark, Susie MacMillan, Todd Taylor, Eric Sean KennedyJohn Schoettle, Michael CalarrudaChristopher Frohn, Dave Snyder, and Dr. Shannon Stewart), has a fundraising goal of $25,000. To achieve this amount, they petition for “votes”, each one equal to the amount of $1. If you are reading this, odds are you are an eligible voter (you are a human being with at least 100 pennies in your possession). Voting is a simple 3-step process.

Remember – In the U.S. someone develops Alzheimer’s disease every 67 seconds. (At least one person in the time it has taken you to read this far). This is an opportunity to make an impact on the lives of not only those who suffer from Alzheimer’s, but the families of those individuals, as well as all of the millions of Americans who will likely contract the disease. Whether you bust a move, shake your groove thing, get jiggy with it, or just awkwardly move your hips around, dance your way over to the Georgia Alzheimer’s Association website and vote, donate, and make a difference!
