The Life and Times of an Emergency Care Doctor

The Emergency Room department at Memorial University Hospital is a particularly exceptional one. It has all the accouterments of a typical city ER: beds, medical machines and a bustling staff—all of which are state-of-the-art. But there’s much more than the eye can see. To top off their already impressive facility, their emergency services include one of only four Level 1 trauma centers in Georgia. Due to a lack of similar services in the region, Memorial cares for 35 counties in Georgia and South Carolina, sees over 80,000 cases per year, and it’s the only facility of its kind between Jacksonville and Charleston. It’s the life support for thousands of Lowcountry residents in need of immediate care, and there’s a good chance that at some point, your life, or the life of one of your loved ones, will be in the hands of one of these doctors.
