A Career She Was Meant For
Dr. Crosland was destined to become an award-winning pediatrician
Dr. Blaine Crosland, SouthCoast Health pediatrician, knew she wanted to be a pediatrician since she was very little. “Science always appealed to me, just like helping people always appealed to me,” Crosland says. “As I became a teenager, I realized that I also loved children and taking care of them. Since then, becoming a pediatrician was always the path chosen for me. There was never a plan B.”
To help kick start her career helping children, Dr. Crosland received her bachelor of science in education, exercise, and sport science, magna cum laude, at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. She completed her doctor of medicine at the Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, GA and had her pediatric residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL.
“I love seeing my patients grow from babies to adulthood. It feels amazing to assist them during each stage of their lives,” Dr. Crosland said. “I also love being there for the children’s parents when they are worried about their child.”
The Importance of Pediatricians Pediatricians are specially educated and trained in diagnosing and treating illnesses in infants, children and adolescents. Some important reasons to choose a good pediatrician include: They have special training in children’s health. They only see children in their practice, so they have a lot of experience in recognizing and treating childhood illnesses. If your child was born early or has a health condition that needs close monitoring, a pediatrician may offer more specialized care.
During her education and previous career experience as a pediatric hospitalist and newbornist as well as a clinical assistant professor, Dr. Crosland received multiple awards and honors, such as the letters of commendation in neonatology, general pediatrics, emergency medicine, and primary care clinic. She has research experience with infant feeding and body composition lab, and she has led poster presentations in the same subject. In addition, she is a fellow and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.SouthCoast Health
