4 Places to Kayak in Liberty County, GA this Summer

There are only a few weeks left before school starts back which means it’s time to go outside and get some sun! One of our favorite outdoor activities is kayaking along the lazy creeks and rivers that run through our coastal community. Whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned pro kayaking in Liberty County is definitely worth the experience. Get your friends together, pack a cooler and hit the water for a fun activity you’ll want to do every weekend! Here are a few places to sit back and relax on your weekend afternoons while you float along the coastal waterways!

1. Dunham Farms

5836 Islands Highway, Sunbury GA

Dunham Farms offers guided tours through Dickinson Creek. Take advantage of the opportunity to experience flat water kayaking at this coastal bed & breakfast. With a guide who’s experienced not only with kayaking, but also the local ecosystem and history, it’s the perfect adventure for anyone who may be new to kayaking or Liberty County. You can participate in a scheduled tour, or book a private tour with 6-12 of your friends! Don’t have a boat of your own? Dunham Farms will let guests of the inn rent one of theirs! Book your spot in one of the upcoming kayaking trips on either August 19 or August 20!

2. Jones Creek Park

2059 Isle of Wight Road, Midway GA

Just before crossing the bridge to Isle of Wight in Midway, there’s a gorgeous park with a small landing for access to the water. Kayakers with some experience will enjoy putting in their boats here and paddling around Jones Creek. Pack a cooler and paddle out to a sandbar for lunch. This is a tidal creek, so be sure to check the tides before you head out, you don’t want to get stuck dragging your kayak through the mud! As you head in for the evening, be sure to check out the sky as the sun sets.  The colors are truly remarkable!

3. Riceboro Dock

Insterstate Paper Road, Riceboro GA

Turn off Hwy 17, to find another public dock and pier. You can spend the day kayaking this small creek that feeds into the larger Cay Creek. This particular spot is a local favorite for fishing, so be sure to bring your tackle box and fishing pole. You and your friends can have double the fun catching a delicious dinner while you soak up a few rays!

4. Sunbury Dock

3320 Fort Morris Road, Midway GA

This dock is located at the very end of Sunbury Road, just off Fort Morris Road in Sunbury. Head out here and enjoy a beautiful day of ocean kayaking. This spot has direct access to the intercoastal waterway, so keep those tides in mind here, too! You can venture through the marsh and relax in the sun.
