Monday 5 Things…..A Dream…..
In a day and age that is framed and fraught with destructive words, thoughts and deeds, I wonder what Martin Luther King Jr. would say today. Would his words even be heard? Would his dream be allowed to flourish? Today’s M5T builds on prior year’s thoughts about MLK and once again is best said with his own deeply reflective and profound words.
1. A Voice.
“I came to the conclusion that there is an existential moment in your life when you must decide to speak for yourself; nobody else can speak for you.”
2. A Calling.
“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward. “Be a bush if you can’t be a tree. If you can’t be a highway, just be a trail. If you can’t be a sun, be a star. For it isn’t by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you are.”
3. A Challenge.
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” “If we are not careful, our colleges will produce a group of close-minded, unscientific, illogical propagandists, consumed with immoral acts. Be careful. ‘brethren!’ Be careful teachers.”
4. A Thought.
“Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think.”
5. A Mindset.
“We must develop and maintain a capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies.” “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
Here’s to a week of change for the right reasons, transcended boundaries, visions, dreams and the legacy of a life lived with purpose.
